The railway in Eritrea was built in 1887-1932 during the Italian period. It connects Massawa and Asmara - the current capital of the country. It is not now fully operational.
The old railway station of Massawa today appears as a set of abuse-occupied accommodations, each room was taken by someone who might not be able to let others, I don't know but anyway ...
It is a station built during the Italian era. It feels a little ruined, but it was spectacular, so I think it's a good idea to visit it together with the surrounding tourist attractions. The back side of the station is a railroad track, but people live in a bare building in front of the railroad track, and it is illegal to take pictures. Please be careful.
Train
So sad because this line from Asmara to Massawa doesn’t working. Eritrean Government doesn’t care about this.
