This is due to the automatic lighting control, which switches over 400,000 lamps according to the time of day. It is home to the world's largest operating railway model (1,545 m2), which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records. The layout is located in one of the historical warehouses of Speicherstadt and is managed by the company "Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg GmbH". The length of the railway is 16,138 meters (as of September 2023)) on a scale of 1:87, 1,120 trains run along the miniature road. The layout occupies two floors in one warehouse building and another floor across the bridge in another warehouse building, where new zones are currently being developed. The project was created by brothers Frederick and Gerrit Brown (creating a miniature model of the railway was their childhood dream).
