The Savior Cathedral (Храм Христа Спасителя) is an Orthodox church in Moscow. The church was built in December 1812 by Tsar Alexander I, after the Napoleonic Wars in Russia, to thank Christ the Savior for “saving Russia from defeat and avoiding shame” and to commemorate the Russian military and civilian victims of the war.
