Find out everything about your holidays in Alonissos on our travel guide! Alonissos is a beautiful island that belongs to the Sporades island complex. Known for its natural beauty and amazing beaches, Alonissos island is arguably one of the most beautiful Greek islands of the Sporades!
The most picturesque island in Alonissos is Chora, the island’s capital. Sitting on the top of a hill overlooking the Aegean Sea, Chora is the best place to visit in Alonissos! You’d never guess that Chora had been damaged by an earthquake that occurred in 1965 and caused the inhabitants to move to Patitiri, the port of Alonissos.
The most popular villages of Alonissos are Patitiri, Votsi, Roussoum Gialos and Steni Vala. These places are also ideal for families and couples. As for Alonissos beaches, they have crystal clear waters and are surrounded by lush greenery, boasting a wonderful natural setting! Carpeted with lush greenery and has many beautiful little beaches, Alonissos Greece boasts a unique natural setting. Alonissos is a laid-back island, ideal for relaxing holidays. It manages to keep its peaceful charm even during the high season!
The countryside of Alonissos is dotted with many quaint little villages! The most beautiful of them are Chora, the island’s capital, and the seaside villages Votsi and Rousoum Gialos, which are perfect for an evening walk.
If you are in a mood for a quick trip, you can get a boat from Patitiri, the island’s port, to the Marine Park of Northern Aegean. This park consists of small islets surrounded by emerald water, where the rare seal species monachus-monachus breed. Many visitors combine their holidays to Alonissos with volunteer work and study in the Marine Park of Northern Aegean.
Thanks to its proximity to the rest of the islands of the Sporades, Alonissos is a great base for island hopping to nearby islands, such as Skopelos or Skyros!
