Discover the Real Free State With a Local Expert

Bloemfontein, South Africa.
This massive repository of the written word in the Afrikaner culture could have been only book-based and consequently dry as proverbial dust - but not so! What the curators have done is present a user friendly glimpse into the lives of the literary greats, using a variety of items, such as press cuttings, published articles, personal effects such as exercise books, as well as re-creating the study or personal work space of many of the authors.A must visit to literature lovers #wintergetaway
The Gallery has a new exhibition every month. The artwork is upmarket and classy, yet affordable. We were there for the opening of the Rudolph Pretorius Solo Exhibition, and wow, it was great. The art is professional and they try to host only the best artist. Definitly the place for art connoisseurs. #wintergetaway
The privately owned Choet Visser Rugby Museum was first opened in 1974 and by 1976, 5000 people had been through the doors. Choet Visser was a Free State Rugby Legend and his grandson .A must visit for Rugby lovers #wintergetaway
Quite an attractive course to play, lots of trees and greenery. Substantially shorter and therefore easier than its neighbour Bloemfontein Golf Course.Very cheap to play golf #wintergetaway
Loved our trip there and will be back. The owner , Hanes Coetzee, is a fascinating man and I could have sat there all day with him. The berry dishes are divine. The museum is a tripod nostalgia. Those who think pyramids are in Egypt, need to see the unique one Hannes built. Along with a maze and working sun clock. The berry smoothie alone is worth the trip there. #wintergetaway
If you want to relax, walk in the garden this is the place for you, the entrance fee is quite affordable, and you get to braai as there are braai facilities. There is also a restaurant inside which serves real good food. It is excellent for any outing, whether its Christmas parties, birthday parties, couple's outing, friend's outing. They do host events as well such as weddings, gala dinner etc. in their venue (hall or lapa). #wintergetaway
The permanent art exhibition on its own is worth the visit, but always interesting other exhibitions. The sculpture garden offer peaceful surrounding to relax with friends and family. Short hikes available and just lots of interesting aspects to explore. #wintergetaway
