Taverna Valtellinese

If you like meat superbly cooked and beautifully presented do go here. We had a delicious dinner of venison and veal, all served quickly and efficiently by a very welcoming staff. This is a lovely, traditional restaurant that doesn't rest on its laurels - it was very busy with locals when we visited, which is always a good sign. Highly recommended.

As a food writer and cookery book author, whenever I visit a new place I look for the best of the local, traditional restaurants that have no interest in food fashion, but offer good ingredients prepared as simply as possible so they speak for themselves. And as important, the welcome and service. The staff at the Valtellinese treat their youngest customers with as much warmth and professionalism as they do strangers, tourists, locals. Polenta is a staple dish in Bergamo and it is porcini season. Here, both are cooked so that the soft, slippery texture of the fungi is complemented by the pool of polenta. The buckwheat pasta tossed with a local, melting cheese and flecks of chard is a point: earthy, lactic, wholesome. The ambience is traditional too, wood panelled, high ceilinged, comfortable. All the waiters were warm, professional and clearly enjoying the job they take both seriously and lightly.

Very good food is pretty much the same as the original you eat on the spot in Valtellina. Very well maintained very well prepared. Excellent selection of wines from Valtellina and elsewhere, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, and numbers appropriate to the room. Price corresponding to the quality.

I recently had an amazing meal at this restaurant, which serves traditional food from the Valtellina region in Italy. The restaurant is beautiful, clean, and comfortably air-conditioned, making it a great place to relax.The service was excellent. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional, without being intrusive. They recommended a fantastic local wine that went perfectly with our meal.The food was delicious and authentic. Recommend to try the Pizzoccheri (a local pasta dish, rare to find anywhere else in Italy), cold cuts, polenta, and the traditional tzigoiner (meat on a stick). On a more practical note: no parking on the premises, but there are some paying parkings nearby at just a few minutes walk (for a 2 hours stay, it's about 6 euros and generally safer than parking on the street).Overall, this is a great spot for anyone looking to enjoy genuine Italian, regional food that is not internationally known. Highly recommend!

The lunch menu turned out to be significantly shorter than the dinner menu, but also surprisingly cheaper 😊. So, we recommend this beautiful restaurant for all occasions!
