Imperial Peking Blakehurst

Emperor's Restaurant is located in Kingsford on the third floor of a club. The environment is good. Many foreigners come to eat. Drinking tea is a characteristic of Cantonese people. There are all kinds of dim sum. The price is not cheap. The final bill for four people is more than 170. Now is the season when lobsters are cheap. At this price, I feel that I can eat big lobsters. However, I satisfied my stomach. From shrimp dumplings, egg tarts, to rice rolls, mango pancakes, and pudding, the service is average.

I've experienced in excess of 20 different yum cha restaurants but I keep coming back to the Imperial Peking in Blakehurst because in my view it has the widest variety and best quality dumplings I've found anywhere. I think it's absolutely wonderful and I head there every time I visit Sydney.

We arrived at the restaurant and gave details of our booking only to be told there was none. When my son arrived some time later, they found the booking. Before we had all sat down we were harassed by the wait staff to decide on dishes. This was not a comfortable introduction. The service continued to be pushy and uncomfortable. We are Yum Cha regulars at a number of venues at Maroubra, Bondi Junction and in the City and the food offered was very, very ordinary. We asked for salt and pepper squid and it was so tough that it was mostly left uneaten. We will not repeat the visit.

This place has been a favorite for my family, for years. Today's visit was poor on many levels. Firstly the food. The lovely silky steamed rice paper noodles have now been replaced with a tough, rubbery substitute. Less fillings inside. Was my children's favorite. It was left on the plate. The whitebait. Another favorite. Weird fried situation. Looked like whitebait but they were hollow inside! All of them. Just batter with two dots for eyes!!! Stuffed eggplant is now half the size. Prawn dumplings still good. The rest we left Kept asking for water. Never got it. My daughter overheard the next table say " you can see the new owners don't care" Complained to the staff about the quality. "Oh well" was the answer. Will not return.
