In 1913, the Danish sculptor Edvard Eriksen cast a bronze statue of a mermaid based on Andersen's fairy tale "The Daughter of the Sea". The bronze statue is located in the Long Causeway Park (Langelinie) in Copenhagen and has become a symbol of Denmark.
