Nairobi National Park was established in 1946 to protect the region's wildlife from the rapidly developing city. Today it's home to a huge variety of wild animals, including the "big five", which roam the park's 117 square kilometers. With the skyscrapers of Nairobi looming on the horizon, this isn't your classic safari experience. Nevertheless, it's rather beautiful and there's a high chance that you'll see lots of animals. Prices are set at USD $50 per person, with an additional charge of KS8,500 for vehicle entrance. There are lots of safari companies in operation in Nairobi who will take you around the park, while local taxi drivers also offer this service. Convenience-wise it's pretty unbeatable, despite Nairobi's infamous traffic. You can easily combine a day-trip here with a visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a neighboring baby elephant sanctuary, and the Giraffe Center in nearby Karen.
