Michelangelo Square is situated on the high ground at the southern end of Florence. It is the best scenic spot overlooking the whole landscape of Florence. When the square was completed, Michelangelo's marble statue David was placed in the center. In the last century, the Florence Municipal Government moved the sculpture into the Florence Academy of Fine Arts from the point of view of protecting the sculpture, while a bronze replica of David was erected in the square.
