The St Gallen Textile Museum is located in the old town of St Gallen, capital of the German-speaking canton of northern Switzerland, and is the most unique museum in Switzerland with textile products on display. St. Gallen was the center of the textile industry in the early twentieth century, and the Textile Museum shows the development of the textile industry in Switzerland and various countries over the centuries, known for its Eastern Swiss embroidery, Egyptian fabrics, and European lace, embroidery and fabric collections since the Middle Ages. The museum is also a textile library where people can consult various fabrics and flower patterns designed by fabric designers for nearly 170 years, including books, photos, design drawings and so on. The museum also displays some textile machines, weaving tools, hand-embroidery machines and other equipment.
