Santiago, Spain: The Holy Land of the Pilgrims # San Diego de Compostela is the capital of the Galician autonomous region of northwestern Spain, and the road to St. James, born in the ninth century, has become synonymous with Santiago. Every year thousands of pilgrims travel from all over the world to Spain or France, and then walk to the last destination, Santiago Cathedral, by foot, bicycle or even horseback riding.
