Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) Loft

OCT has a lot of interesting shops, galleries and artworks worth visiting. Some of the rooftops are accessible too and I actually wish they would open some nice cafes or bars on them. Seems like a good opportunity to attract more visitors. As for cuisine, there’s a few good restaurants in the area. I would recommend La Boca in particular if you’re a fan of Mexican food. All in all a place worth visiting whether you’re in Shenzhen on a short trip, or are living here. This photo was taken with my DJI Mavic 2 Pro in 2019 while I was still living in Guiyang. Meanwhile, 2 years further, I’ve moved to Shenzhen and also made a short POV street photography session of this area on my YouTube channel.

I heard friends say early on that there is a creative culture park in OCT, which is very suitable for taking pictures. It is very suitable for dating couples! There are many creative restaurants in the garden and a variety of distinctive cafes. It is a good place to go for a weekend walk. If you’d like to buy jewellery or handicrafts, you can stroll around the market, you can find a lot of limited-edition gadgets! The most famous of OCT is the phoenix flower that blooms in May every year. The annual opening is very popular and attracts many people! Don't miss this season if you like to take pictures!  How to get there: Take the subway to the East of Chinatown and take the right exit from the A exit. You can arrive. You can also get off the bus to the Konka Group.  Food: Many restaurants are famous here, as well as many cafes and other distinctive houses to attract the youth.

With the gentle spring breeze and the slightly tipsy sunshine, in this season full of vitality and vigor, I have chosen Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town as my destination for a spring day street sweeping. Not only does it carry a rich historical and cultural heritage, but it also integrates the fashionable style of a modern city, adding a few vivid colors to the canvas of spring. - Starting from the Overseas Chinese Town Creative Culture Park, the shady paths lined with green trees, the creative shops with unique craftsmanship, and the graffiti walls full of artistic style, every spot is brimming with a literary atmosphere. The spring light filters through the mottled tree shadows onto the body, feeling that quiet and warm urban temperature. - The coffee shops, art centers, and various street performances along the way make people linger and forget to return. In this quiet space amidst the hustle and bustle, the comfort of spring is displayed to the fullest. - Walking along Shennan Avenue, the Overseas Chinese Town Ecological Plaza is blooming like a piece of brocade, with cherry blossoms and kapok flowers competing to bloom, as if telling the story of spring. The surrounding modern buildings and natural landscapes coexist harmoniously, showing the inclusiveness and diversity of Shenzhen, this city. - At the end of the day, enjoy a cup of spring afternoon tea at the rooftop bar of OCT Loft, watching the lights come on, and the night view of Overseas Chinese Town is even more charming. The lights of thousands of homes and the starry sky reflect each other, bringing a sense of peace to the heart. - In summary, Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town in spring, whether it is cultural history or natural scenery, has deeply intoxicated me. Weekend time can be spent with your travel buddy at this place, wandering around unique boutiques, sipping coffee under the trees, taking photos, and enjoying a delightful weekend~ The OCT Creative Culture Park in Shenzhen is not very large, but it's a place that combines business, culture, and art. It often hosts various art exhibitions and has many spots perfect for checking in. Tucked away in a residential building near the Overseas Chinese Town Creative Park The space is quite small, but it's packed with all sorts of cultural and creative/artistic peripherals. I really love this sense of maximalism. There are so many cute and interesting illustrations, postcards, and small items. If you like drawing or keeping a journal, this is the place to rush to! ! 🌀 The weather is okay after the typhoon, it's just a mix of sunny and overcast, but at least it didn't rain. I was lucky, the weather cleared up when I was taking photos, and I could see the blue sky and white clouds. ❗️OCT really matches well with the Japanese style too! ➡️ Travel Guide (Subway Travel Edition) 🧭 Navigate to "OCT Creative Culture Park". 🚇 Take the subway to Line 1 "Qiaocheng East Station" Exit A and walk about 700 meters, or Line 2 "Qiaocheng North Station" Exit B and walk about 1000 meters to enter the park. 🗺️ OCT is divided into South and North areas. Decide where to start your visit based on which subway exit you come from. The park is not small, but it's not confusing either, you can wander around freely. 📷 For the photos, the location is straight ahead from Qiaocheng North Exit B to the overpass. I went there around 4 pm, and the sunlight was slanting into the overpass, which is great for taking pictures. The 7th and 8th photos were taken inside the park. ‼️ Tips 1⃣️ If you're going there to wander the streets on your own, be mentally prepared. There are many groups doing street photography on weekends, and the park is quite crowded. You might need to overcome some awkwardness (I personally feel I still need to work on my courage). 2⃣️ There are quite a few nice coffee shops in the park. If you want to check them out on weekends, I suggest going early, otherwise, it can get a bit crowded. 3⃣️ It's recommended to bring mosquito repellent, as the park has a high rate of greenery coverage.

Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town's new exhibition—"Power Plant". In this exhibition, Xie Wendie will also set up a unique visual experience according to the spatial structure of ArtBay, allowing the works and space to have a new conversation. In Xie Wendie's works, the intuitive capture of shapes and the subconscious depiction of images go hand in hand, attempting to trace the changes in thoughts. Xie Wendie's creation is a circuitous experience, from initially receiving 'glass modeling' training, through the tortuous path of craftsmanship, to gradually establishing a connection with herself and the outside world with the joint action of materials and craftsmanship. Her preference for 'glass' material actually stems from the connection with 'glass' she feels. Xie Wendie is fascinated by the dialectical contradictions of glass (whether it's the visual perception, the making, or the metaphorical aspects of the phenomenon)—just as she is fascinated by puns, the tangible and intangible, opposites and similarities, dreams and reality, etc.—and uses it as an entry point to juxtapose and relate to other materials, becoming mirrors to each other. This has become her way of expressing and understanding the world. Xie Wendie's works contain various 'forces': the force between object shapes, the force between shapes and space, the force between materials and time, the force between the body and materials during the creative process, and so on. Due to materials and craftsmanship, Xie Wendie often wanders between various factories to complete her works. The 'factory' is not only the base of labor but also the place for the artist to observe and communicate. The subtle relationship between the artist and the craftsmen mutually influences the creation of the works and produces different degrees of resonance. Coming out from the northeast of the Garden Expo Park, walk along Qiaoxiang Road all the way, and take a stroll in the Overseas Chinese Town Cultural and Creative Park. Not many people, passing through it, along Xiangshan East Street to Zhong Street, the road greening in this area is very nice, with green trees on the roadside surrounded by blooming bougainvillea, the colors are quite pleasant. Compared to a year ago, it seems that the colors of the flowers have faded a bit. Continue strolling from Swan Castle along Dujuan Mountain Street to Yitian Plaza.

#winhkflight Overseas Chinese Town East (OCT East) in Yantian District is a large ecological resort brimming with a natural landscape, small towns of western and oriental styles, and entertainment facilities. It has three themed parks: Knight Valley, Tea Stream Valley, and Wind Valley. You can also pay homage to Buddhist statues at Huaxing Temple. There are also wonderful performances played in the resort every day. The most famous ones are Heavenly Zen, a dancing performance revealing the Chinese tea culture, and Roaring Flood, a live-action stunt show. A good place to chill and have signature food and coffee. 1km away from metro station. I want to travel to Hong Kong to finish visiting this area!
