The small towns along the coast are quiet and peaceful, picturesque and beautiful. Whitewashed alleys and arches, and the many ornate china shops tucked away in the alleyways, will be the perfect place to enjoy lunch, a leisurely stroll and an afternoon.Show Less
- 4.84.4/513 ReviewFreebased on 4356 reviews"The Cathedral of San Andrea, also known as the Cathedral of Amalfi, was built in the tenth century in the town of Amalfi in Campania, Italy, and was later merged with the original two churches into a six-porch and five-hall Roman church, and has been rebuilt many times. Visitors can reach the bronze gate at the entrance of the church by climbing 62 steps, which was installed from Constantinople in the eleventh century, with golden mosaics on the top of the church, and pictures depicting the details of Moorish life on the front and colonnade. The exterior of the church is Sicilian Arabian and the interior is Baroque. The ceiling of the church hall is full of holy paintings, the high altar is guarded by four beautiful pillars, and the apostle St. Andrew's crucifixion is painted in the center."Amalfi56m from downtownHighlights: The Basilica of Sant'Andrea was built in the first half of the 10th century and is the episcopal church of Amalfi. This church combines various architectural styles. The exterior is mainly dark gray and milky white, and the interior is mostly Baroque. It is magnificent, gorgeous and exquisite. The long steps lead directly to the main entrance of the church, and in the cloister are buried the princes and nobles of the former Amalfi. The most precious thing in the church is the remains of St. Andrew buried in the church crypt, the protector of Amalfi. Today, its remains are only available for viewing at important religious events.Show Less
