Zhangbishi Former Residence

The former residence of Zhang Bishi in Dapu Hakka Folk Culture Village[1], a Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit, is located in Chelong Village, Xihe Town, Dapu County, Guangdong Province. It is 17 kilometers away from Dapu County. It is a tourist Attraction integrating folk customs and nature. In early 2013, it was rated as a national AAA-level tourist Attraction by the Guangdong Provincial Tourist Attraction Quality Rating Committee.

In Dapu Hakka Folk Culture Village, there are nearly ten Hakka ancient houses, including Guanglu House and Yunlu House, the former residences of Zhang Bishi, the father of Chinese wine and founder of Changyu Wine Company; Zizheng House, the former residence of Zhang Chengqing, the first general manager of Changyu; the former residence of Zhang Zizhang, a Chinese winemaker of Changyu; terraced vegetable fields, river beaches, green bamboos and trees, old cows and shepherds, etc. The main building of the Attraction, Guanglu House, the former residence of Zhang Fashi, was built in the 34th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1908 AD); the building area is 4,180 square meters; the building structure is three halls, four horizontals and one enclosure, with 18 halls, 13 large wells and 99 rooms; the entire building is exquisitely crafted, painted and carved, majestic and rigorous, and magnificent, and it is a super-large enclosed dragon house.

There are three large docks behind the house. Zhang Bishi was the Consul General of Singapore and was promoted to the rank of Guanglu Dafu (a minister of the first rank). He was received by Emperor Guangxu, Empress Dowager Cixi, Sun Yat-sen, Yuan Shikai, Zhang Xueliang, and President Wilson of the United States. Zhang Bishi was not only a business tycoon, but also a patriotic overseas Chinese leader and one of the Eight Sages of Hakka. His national spirit of hard work and industrial development and his patriotic thought of "being born as a Chinese nation and serving the Chinese people" have always been praised by people. There are exhibition halls such as Zhang Bishi Hall, Official Culture Hall, and Wine Culture Hall in the house. The dragon robes, phoenix robes, phoenix crowns, official sedan chairs, weapons of the Qing Dynasty, and large wine barrels, wine jars, wine jars, wine pots, and wine glasses stored in the underground kiln a hundred years ago are displayed.

The Attraction where the scenic spot is located is a famous county for Guangdong Hakka cuisine, with many famous Guangdong Hakka snacks such as pearl cakes, hair cakes, pancakes, and abacus.
