The Octagon

Dunedin's octagonal square is the central square here, as the name implies, this square is an octagonal square, in each corner has a very famous local building, it can be said that this is the center of Dunedin's unquestionable place, Definitely a must visit place.

Octagon Square is the center of Danitin, in an octagonal shape, but Danitin City Hall and St. Paul's Cathedral stand on the side of the square, and at the lower level is the bar promenade, where pigeons fly and stop, everything is leisurely. St Paul's Cathedral is a 19th century European castle-style building that is very rare in New Zealand, with columns up to 40 meters high bearing the only stone-shaped arched roof in New Zealand. In the centre of the square stands a large statue of Robert Pence, Scotland's famous Romantic poet, who died early at 37, wrote more than 600 extremely beautiful poems in his short life, and you may not know his name. But you will sing his poem "Friendship Long and Long". On the southeast side of the octagonal square, there is also the famous first church of denizen, the top 60 meters high spire stacked, is the most eye-catching destination in the city of denizen. The statue of Pence is directly opposite the Danitin Railway Station, a small and exquisite station, very interesting.

It is the city center of Dunedin. Although it is called Octagon Square, it actually looks more like a circular square. A major traffic road passes through this, and other roads finally are here. It feels a bit similar to the Wujiaochang in Shanghai, but the scale is much smaller, and all are flat traffic. The circle around the square is home to churches, town halls, shops and restaurants, and cinemas, a place that citizens and tourists alike enjoy to hang out.

Octagonal Square is the downtown of Danidin. In fact, the real downtown is a circle in the inner center of the Octagonal Square. The second floor is a circle of eight octagonal corners. We walked along the eight sides for about half an hour. There are innumerable restaurants and shops around, as well as some Gothic buildings, churches, city halls and so on.

Octagonal Square is the square in front of Daniding City Hall. The square is very large. There are eight roads radiating out, so it is named Octagonal Square. The square is surrounded by many famous buildings and shopping malls. It's the absolute downtown of Danidin. It's very busy and worth visiting.

A must see here in Dunedin. There are statues, public places, some markets and some good shops. There are shops selling souvenirs and other items. The visitor center is also there. The staff at the visitor center are helpful and know a lot and can help you with sightseeing guides. My favorite store is Sue Todd Antiques, Su has some lovely things in the store, that's where I spend most of my money!
