The Old Fort of Fort William

Good viewpoint

The old fort has a number of information boards, good views and is an interesting place to spend 20 minutes if you are in Fort William. Only a short walk from the bus/rail station.

Good views and information

Not much of the Fort remains but there are some cannons. Good information board showing what it used to look like and explaining the history. Go through the arch and follow the path round to the bench...

Simple ruin

Just a ruin, some of the fort walls are left and easy to miss. Very good sign boards highlighting the terrible destruction of the Fort.

Beautiful view across Loch Linnie

Nice information boards, well kept grass area with some benches. Sat on the top in the sunshne looking across Loch Linnie, could not have been anywhere better in the world, absolutely stunning.

Great views across the loch

There’s not much left to see of the Old Fort, and it’s easy to miss being next to a busy road, but the site offers great views across the loch. Not a must see, but something you’re likely to stumble u...
