Yangtou Mountain Grottoes

Yangtoushan Grottoes are on Yangtou Mountain in the north of Gaoping City. Yangtou Mountain is the main peak of the Shouyang Mountain in the Yumai of Taihang Mountain. It is 1297 meters above sea level. It is named because the mountain is high and steep. Some stone statues and stone towers are distributed on the mountainside, and some stand on the mountain. Some are caves and some are like dragonflies. According to Mr. Zhang Qingjie's "Shanxi Gaoping Yangtou Mountain Grottoes Survey Report", the grottoes can be divided into 10 areas, 22 large caves, more than 80 small Buddhas, and a thousand Buddha monuments.

Shanxi Changzhi at the junction of Gaoping Yangtoushan Grottoes. The northern Wei built large and small grottoes on the route from Datong to Luoyang, the most representative of which is Yangtoushan Grottoes. The Yangtoushan Grottoes were built during the Taihe period of Xiaowen Emperor of Northern Wei, formerly known as Dingguo Temple, and Beiqi was renamed Hongfu Temple. Yangtoushan Grottoes are carved on the sandstone rock body, there are 9 caves in existence, and there are 6 stone towers at 3 cliffs and 6 stone towers. From the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Sui Dynasty, Yangtoushan_ has been continuously opened. At its peak, there are Buddha statues of Wanzun, also known as Wanfo Grottoes. The image style of Yangtoushan Grottoes can see the majesty of Yungang Grottoes (Figure 7), and the smartness of Longmen Grottoes (Figure 5). Yangtou Mountain is located at the transit station between Longmen (Luoyang) and Yungang (Datong), and will naturally receive the impact of the two grottoes.
