Close to the Maritime Museum, there is a small square with a sculpture in the square. The building behind it is the University of Applied Sciences in Rotterdam. The theme of the sculpture is called the destroyed city to commemorate the bombing of May 14, 1940, so this square is called 1940 Square. The sculpture was created in 1953 by a Frenchman and is now a national monument in the Netherlands.
