#8 of Best Things to Do in Tokyo
Art Museums

This was the vision that Hayao Miyazaki, one of the founders of the widely successful Studio Ghibli and the Executive Director of the Museum, had for the Ghibli Museum. Having visited the museum, I stand awed and overwhelmed at the intricate yet utterly simple manner in which this vision was executed. This article is a call to all Ghibli fans, and the lovers of art, music, animation, stories and films, and all you dreamers and wanderers waiting to stumble upon your next inspiration – if you have to squeeze in one last stop in your Tokyo travels, let it be the Ghibli Museum.

Now one of the most recognized names in the Tokyo art scene, teamLab is an international art collective that began its activities in 2001. The interdisciplinary group explores the intersection of art, science, technology, and the natural world through collective creativity. The team consists of specialists from various fields, including artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, and architects, pooling their respective skills to create interacitve works of art, which have been exhibited across the globe.Among these works is teamLab Planets - a sprawling installation located in Tokyo's Toyosu Ward. The installation consists of large-scale artwork spaces which use digital art to replicate natural environments, inviting visitors to step in and become a part of the exhibits themselves. teamLab Planets has enjoyed huge popularity in the five years that it has been open, and has seen its exhibition period extended due to popular demand on multiple occations.

Tokyo National Museum is the oldest and largest national museum in Japan, one of the largest art museums in the world. It was originally founded in 1972 at the Yushima Seido Temple and moved to its current location in Ueno Park a few years later. Its total area exceeds 100 thousand square meters. I am so glad to have been here and witnessed this marvel in person. If you get a chance, I highly recommend going and seeing this before it comes down. Even if you are not a fan of Gundam or know anything about it, you will have a very memorable experience here. The show at night is even better and it's pretty cool to see from Marine Tower.

This is a stylish museum designed by Noriaki Kurokawa, which is well-known, located directly connected to Nogizaka Station and a 5-minute walk from Roppongi Station. ✨✨ Some special exhibitions are always held. There are 3 cafes in the building, and the chairs used are designer chairs, making it a cozy art space no matter where you cut it. The museum shop also changes the products that are placed every season, and it is good for a little souvenir! It is a museum that you want to take time slowly in the sense of spaciousness and depth, and the liberation of the ceiling atrium ❣️
