It was built on the coast of the Adriatic Sea, close to the Bay of Trieste. It was built from 1856 to 1860 for the Archduke Maximilian I of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and his wife. Miramare Castle was designed by Carl Junker. From a distance, it looks like it is standing directly on the waves.
