Arts
Comedy
Part of our monthly Saturday improv drop-in workshop series at The Old Hairdressers Use Your Mug with Chloe Turner Physical comedy can sometimes feel a little daunting. In this workshop we'll be exploring how to use your physicality to communicate to your scene partner and to the audience. This can include facial expressions, body language, stage blocking and just general physical playfullness. A fun non-verbal reaction will entertain an audience whilst giving you space and time to consider your next game move- a win win! This workshop will support participants to: - Identify ways they can use their physicality to add to their scenes - Feel more comfortable embracing silence in scenes whilst still supporting your scene partner and giving the audience something to enjoy - Listen to their scene partner and meaningfully react This workshop will involve movement so please wear clothes you feel comfortable moving in. If you require any adjustments to participate in the workshop please contact either Glasgow Improv Theatre or let Chloe know at the beginning of the workshop and we can alongside you to ensure you are able to fully participate. Chloe is a member of GIT's house team 'Raintown' where she can often be found rolling on the floor or pretending to be a seal. She performs regularly at the GIT and even occassionally dabbles in shows with the Improv Cooperative and Falling & Laughing. When she was just a wee lass, she was heavily involved in student theatre directing and stage managing shows at Edinburgh Fringe, Glasgow School of Art and Cottiers Theatre. Now that she's a grown up she intends to spend her savings training to be a clown, like all good adults should. “though hope is about the future, grounds for it lie in the records and recollections of the past” – Hope in the Dark, Rebecca Solnit Are you aged between 16-25? Then join this special talk and discussion with artist and activist Ellie Harrison to mark the 10th anniversary of Dark Days. Staged in February 2015, Dark Days was a participatory event for which Harrison invited 100 people to spend the night in GoMA’s great hall as part of a pop-up community. Ten years on, Harrison will discuss the ideas behind the Dark Days project alongside the many ways she has sought to evolve her practice in response to the climate emergency over the last decade. The aim is to offer hope to young people that change is possible if we work together. Images: participants at Dark Days at GoMA on 13-14 February 2015 (James Rippingale). -- Ellie Harrison is an artist and activist who has been living in Glasgow since 2008. For more than a decade she has sought to evolve her practice in response to the climate emergency – creating participatory performance/events and investing time in community projects and campaigns. Her 2019 book The Glasgow Effect: A Tale of Class, Capitalism & Carbon Footprint tells the story of her controversial attempt to live a ‘low carbon lifestyle of the future’ by refusing to leave Glasgow or use any vehicles except her bike for a whole year. Dark Days was the outcome of Harrison’s year as Associate Artist at GoMA in 2014, to coincide with the gallery’s participation in her Early Warning Signs project.
