Drawing Ritual is an experience of freedom of expression, connection, senses, and trust. This is a process, in which people explore pastel drawing on paper and meeting each other in an embodied way. This ritual involves various movement and drawing processes. Here the body and mind relax, and the playfulness, creative flow and the drawing process beyond representation is activated. There is only one rule: no words. The duration of the experience is 1.5 hours. The studio is open for visits till 6 pm. The event is a part of Blauwe Zone Festival taking place in Amsterdam Nieuw-West on Saturday and Sunday, 5-6 July. Hoe is het om jong te zijn in een land waar traditie, social media en politieke controle samenkomen? In Control Refresh laat Toma Gerzha het contrast zien tussen jeugdige vrijheid en politieke repressie in Rusland. Als kind van Russische ouders en opgegroeid in Nederland, reisde Toma tot voor kort met haar Russische paspoort naar haar land van herkomst. Daar documenteerde ze haar generatiegenoten tegen een achtergrond van groeiende censuur en oorlogspropaganda. De beelden ogen luchtig, maar daaronder sluimert de dreiging: duizenden jongeren werden sinds de invasie opgepakt wegens protest. Over de maker Toma Gerzha (2003) werd geboren in Moskou en groeide op in Amsterdam in een Russisch gezin. Toma is een kunstenaar die werkt met fotografie en mixed media. Daarnaast studeert ze Kunstgeschiedenis in Amsterdam. In haar werk onderzoekt ze thema’s als de Oost-Europese mentaliteit, het gevoel van er niet bij te horen, en het balanceren tussen insider maar ook outsider te zijn. Toma richt zich vooral op het leven van jongeren en laat zien hoe politieke en sociale omstandigheden hun dagelijks bestaan beïnvloeden. Door de kwetsbaarheid van jongvolwassenen vast te leggen, laat ze zien hoe feestgedrag vaak een manier is om aan de werkelijkheid te ontsnappen. In 2024 publiceerde Toma haar boek Control Refresh. Haar werk is onder andere tentoongesteld op Biennale de l’Image Possible, ParisPhoto, Encontros da Imagem, en in het Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
