Having now visited Turkey a few times in the last couple of years, we have come to know what to expect. That said, we still did a lot of research before booking this hotel. It was cheaper than the previous hotels so I was a little worried - I needn't have been. It's a small hotel with big personality. It's set on several levels into the hillside. There are standard rooms which are a good size with a balcony and you can see the sea from most of them. You can upgrade to a club room (which we did). These are situated outside the main body of the hotel. It consists of two rooms with patio doors from each leading onto the patio area. We had lovely views, despite being on the lowest level. The food is what we've come to expect in Turkey. A wide range of good quality food. The only criticism I'd have is a lack of information for anyone with dietary requirements, however, they are addressing this. In addition to the main restaurant, there is a snack bar serving freshly made pizzas and burgers for most of the day. Two waiters who stood out to us were Fathi and Ramazan. They went above and beyond every day for us. There are two pools: one for children and another infinity pool for 16+, which has jets you could switch on. It's worth mentioning that the bar at this pool only serves soft and hot drinks, but it isn't too far to the main bar. Despite being a full capacity, there were always lots of sunbeds available and as many towels as you want. There is a beach bar which also serves fresh pizzas and burgers , and where you'll find the wooden jetty with sunbeds on which you may have seen on the website. It's a couple of minutes walk outside the hotel. It's not a very big beach area that is designated for the hotel though. On from this are a handful of bars (one which shows English football for the footie fans). Aside from this Aklaya hasn't much else to offer. If you want shops, marina etc, you'll have to visit Turgutreis which is a 25 minute taxi journey away and where you'll find the market on Saturday (definitely worth a visit). This will set you back around £6-7 each way. From what we could gather, there isn't much in the way of entertainment in the day for young children. That said, there's loads for the big kids such as water aerobics and the water polo, which we really enjoyed - it was competitive but lots of fun and lovely to see lots of nationalities playing together. The evening entertainment was a little mixed but in the most it was very good. There's a mini disco for the little ones most nights, but it's the same routine and only lasts 20 minutes. Some evenings the staff put on their own entertainment in the form of bingo and a quiz. Despite my hatred of bingo, it was good fun, and the quizzes were really good. Don't forget to shout, " Uppee," to have your answer! There is an onsite spa which we used on the second day. We enjoyed a Turkish bath with coffee scrub and a massage for around £75 each. In our opinion, it was well worth it. Overa
