Best location.^^ The best history and nature meet to bring you a good experience in Norway. Hiking on the back mountain is also recommended. ^^

This is an historic hotel set on the Fjord in Balestrand - absolutely stunning Fjord location. The history of the hotel is also amazing - common areas were lovely and appointed with historical photos and furnishings. We stayed 1 night in the historical part of the hotel and were given two rooms that shared a bathroom - which worked great for my husband and I traveling with our adult son (who then had his own room). We had a stunning Fjord view from the rooms! The furnishings and amenities in the rooms were as expected for an historical hotel -- but we had a comfortable stay and no complaints really. Only thing I'd note is almost no outlets in the room - I think we found one. There was also no way to use a blow dryer (if that is something you need). But these are small things and again - to be expected when staying in an historical hotel. We returned after a day for 1 more night and were in the modern building. Room there was also as expected - nothing fancy - but all modern conveniences and again a stunning view over Balestrand. I highly recommend the buffet dinner - often these are not that great but this was delicious ..as was breakfast. The host at breakfast was a lovely man who gave us some very helpful tips on our plan to visit Vik that morning. The ferrys are ultra convenient to the hotel. . literally yards from the hotel lobby. . can eat breakfast and drink coffee while keeping an eye out for when the ferry arrives. Very magical stay at Kviknes.

This hotel may be the best Balestrand has to offer but it is tired. We did not book this by choice but were here for an event. Had there been any way possible to stay elsewhere and drive back and forth we would have done so. We came by ferry and were trapped as there are no car rentals available on Saturdays and Sundays. Weekdays you can get them at nearby airports but the closest one is an hour by car and taxis are not readily available. We were stuck in a room in the modern building. The rooms in the historic building are better. The door to the room from the hallway is a 24 inch flat panel door as is the one to the bathroom. The hangars are the kind that are fixed to the bar so they cannot be stolen. There are no wash cloths or bath mats. For 2 people you receive one bath and one hand towel each for your stay. We requested additional towels to shower one morning after being there two nights. After waiting an hour none had arrived. The only amenity is hand soap in a locked dispenser - they must think people would want to steal the soap. The room feels like that of a bad cruise ship. The shower is 24 x 20 inches. It would be much better to remove the surround and simply have a euro style shower with no glass and the fixtures only attached to the bath walls. It wouldn't feel so cramped. Other European hotels have small rooms which is okay if they are fresh and inviting. This most certainly is not. There is no safe for valuables so you must carry them with you at all times or take the risk.

Picture perfect setting. Buffet dinner was expensive and not worth it, some cute restaurants in town are adorable and food is fine at those. Beware if you’re staying in historical section of hotel there’s no elevators to the rooms. The modern section is not as cute but perfectly functional and spacious. Staff is lovely. Make sure to have drinks on the main balcony overlooking the fjord.

We stayed for one night while exploring the Sognefjord. We splurged and got a room in the historic building facing the water which was worth it. View from our balcony was spectacular and amazing for a quiet afternoon reading. Due to the low number of guests, no dinner buffet was served however we had a 4 course menu included in our room rate. Breakfast buffet was decent however we seriously enjoyed the bar.

The lovely hotel tremendous service in a spectacular location. The rooms are old as part of the hotel built an 1800s and the new part of the hotel built very recently. The new part of the hotel where we stayed is very comfortable. Couch chair, balcony. Spacious room dinner at the hotel is a white cloth event and this is for a buffet. If you choose or you can have a four course meal, it's all by reservation. When you check into the hotel . You can make a dinner reservation for the time you want. Breakfast is included. I don't believe there's a bad view anywhere from this hotel. If there is we were unable to find it

Arrived here for the last evening of our ‘tour’ the view from the old part of the hotel is simply stunning …. But why on earth were they allowed to build the extension 60’s build monstrosity Not in keeping with the original hotel and a blot on the land scape surely this could have been build more in-keeping with the natural beauty of the area Room was very small and had a small balcony but it did have a stunning view so that was the compromise. We have been in 6 other hotels on this visit to Norway and I can honestly say this hotel provided the worse buffet breakfast out of them all. I am just thankful we decided not to chose the buffet option for our evening mea and used the bar facilities which was simple but perfectly adequate.

The historic old part of the hotel has a lot of character. Their sumptuous dinner buffet is expensive but worth it with all the many dishes. The hotel is worth visiting just to see their large art collection hanging on the walls of the various rooms and hallways. ”Four generations have been collecting the original artworks that now grace the walls of our hotel. At the heart of the hotel’s large collection are the artists for whom Balestrand was a source of inspiration. Artists such as Hans F. Gude, Johannes Flintoe and Hans Dahl were regular guests at the hotel or built themselves houses in the village.” One room "Hoyvik Hall"- has intricately carved wood created by the local woodcarver Hoyvik.

Beautiful location Check in was friendly and efficient. Room: Old No floor towel No do not disturb sign No luggage rack Shower had good pressure and was instantly warm Balcony was nice but others on cell phones talking ridiculously loud so couldn't enjoy it, would have loved to make tea/coffee in early morning or evening but no kettle or coffee maker. Breakfast: Excellent, quality and selection was impressive. Superb and attentive staff. Best breakfast during our trip in Norway. Tip: hold key card to door to lock on way out, does not lock automatically. Note: Hard to find lunch spot that was opened when we arrived right before noon.
