Very nice rooftop bar, activities for the guests are also offered! I was not completely content with the cleanliness and there is no vending machine or anything like that to buy drinks.

Location is fantastic. Free surfboard. The whole hostel is not really clean. Be aware to stay with bunch teenagers. Female staffs were friendly and professional. Except a long hair male staff busy talk with 15-16 British girls and keep other customers waiting.

The Surf House is fantastic! Its location in town is perfect, and I appreciated the warm welcome and early check-in. I met some wonderful people in my room. I highly recommend joining the free morning yoga classes on the rooftop—such a great experience! Callum, the guide for the lighthouse walk, is a legend. I also enjoyed the farmers market on Thursday, guided by a lovely Dutch girl. The staff is friendly and the kitchen is well-equipped and clean. Highly recommend!

Great hostel. Clean, great location and friendly staff. Was given a free drinks voucher when I checked in which was a nice touch! Also a lot of free events on throughout the week. Highly recommended!

A beautiful, friendly hostel right on the sea. Staff are super friendly and helpful and have daily activities to allow guests to get involved and meet people. The rooms were very clean and all areas were cleaned daily! The rooftop bar was full of atmosphere and a great way to start the evening before heading out. A very central location!

We stayed at the surf house for 5 nights during our east coast trip and it was great! The hostel doesn’t have that usual hostel feel to it and is bright, spacious and attractive when you first walk in. The location is perfect, and the facilities were great, particularly the kitchen area & rooftop! We were lucky enough to be given one of the more spacious dorm rooms which was even better, however the actual comfort of the rooms could be uplifted. The beds were averagely comfortable but not horrendous. There could be more showers available as there was only 3 to a corner of rooms so sometimes this caused queuing. The cleaners also cleaned the bathrooms at the prime time to wake up so we’d most of the time find ourselves having to use different bathrooms when we first woke up! There was always plenty activities on and you could hire surf boards free of charge, we didn’t utilise this but was a great incentive! Definitely the best hostel we’ve had! 9/10 from us 😁

After a 14 hour trip on a Greyhound Coach up from Sydney, you can’t believe your eyes when you finally see The Surf House before you. Upon checking in, you’re greeted by seasoned professionals in the art of reception-ism and are given a free drinks voucher for the bar which you take as your permission to paint the town red. Once you defeat the final staircase and claim the treasure of a bed and a good nights rest, you are taken by sweet surprised at the balcony in your room overlooking the Main Street. One trip to Aldi later and you’re demonstrating your chef skills in the hostel kitchen, Gordon Ramsey who? It could be slightly cleaner, but when you’ve stayed in a few hostels you know there’s no such thing as spotless. The housekeeping staff do a good job at keeping the place tidy after hours. Up at the roof top bar you claim your free drink (although there’s only one drink it’s valid for; the house larger) and put your name down for the pool competition. Someone orders a pizza and it looks good so you get one too. After a few more drinks you’re at the beach with a guitar singing Take Me Home, Country Roads while the sun goes down. You borrowed a towel from the hostel reception and you left your shoes behind because it’s Byron Bay. All your friends have to walk a mile back from the beach to their accommodation but you chose the surf house. You’ll be in bed before they’re even half way and you can rent a surfboard in the morning. Why would you want to stay anywhere else?

Excellent hostel. Clean and well maintained by the helpful staff. Has a feeling of space. Kitchen and rooftop bar are really good. Unfortunately my first night in the dorm was spoilt by a couple of thoughtless and selfish English guys !!

It’s a huge hostel and too big for my liking. Dorms are extremely basic with clinical decor. Not enough bathrooms, showers flooded easily. Kitchen was large and ok. Definitely feels like a party hostel aimed at a young crowd. Staff were nice and events were good but it wasn’t really for me.

I have my favorite place to stay here in Byron and this is not it but I could not get a booking there for this visit. For over $200 a night I got a room that had no TV, no bathroom, which was down the other end of the hall and was filthy with no toilet paper. The bathrooms are also insufficient for the number of people staying. They have a great kitchen but area for $200 a night I would expect complimentary tea and coffee. Sure its in a great location, but so is my favorite and so I won't be back. They also charge $10 for parking which is not stated on the *********** site so is not transparent. Seems popular with the backpackers.

Great hostel! Nice beds, clean kitchen and spacious! Free surfboards for use. An amazing rooftop bar with daily activities to socialize. It is centrally located in Byron at a few minutes walk to the Piano Bar, the beach and more. The staff is extremely friendly helpful and thoughtful. By far the best hostel in Byron, will be back! Thanks heeps for the service :)!
