Two things we learned about the room when we arrived. First, it's hard to find and requires four different keys to get to. Second, there is no air-conditioning until mid-June. Given that we walked from the bus stop about 20 minutes away in the middle of a hot day, this was quite a blow. But two days later when we checked out I was ready to give the Toscano Palace the full five star rating, and this is largely due to the host Andrea. One of the nicest hosts ever, always helpful and super friendly. The room was also pretty good. Huge, with high ceiling and a small balcony overlooking the market below with the locals and tourists going about their day. Perfect also for a late night bite and drink in the room. Modern bathroom and lighting. Bed was large and comfy. To make it a bit weird, there was a sauna *in* the room, perhaps instead of air-con? Regardless, Andrea got us a ventilator so we got by as the weather was not really that hot. Breakfast is served in the common area outside the room. There are only 3 rooms so it's made for you at the time of your choosing. Location is very central, close to restaurants and shops and 15 minute walk from the bus station to Taormina. All in all while not cheap (~€150/night), and despite the initial setback, highly recommended.
