Having known this pub for many years and being Butcombe loyalty Club members, we wanted to introduce friends to both! Unfortunately we will not be going back.. since our last visit, The menu has not improved In choices available, (not a lot for weight watchers either.) We were there at 12.30 and told the pie of the day was chicken, ham and leek which 2 of us ordered.the other 2 found it difficult to choose due the lack of variety, and were not enthusiastic about what was on offer! Then our very nice waitress came back to say there were no pies left!!! I settled for Chicken Caesar minus anchovies, our friend chose the pork chop. All of us were taken aback when the food arrived, very small portions for the money charged. Although the waitress did say that the Chef was adding on 2 extra pieces of chicken to my salad as it was a starter/lighter choice….l could still taste anchovy in the dressing despite me telling her l hated them and l am sure she told the kitchen. The Lamb Kofta was a main course but you would not think so, even served on a dessert size plate! It was the smallest fish and chips l have seen in any other Butcombe! My salad, well for £9.25, what a profit must be made on that…2 tiny bits of chicken and a few small lettuce wedges. We were told there was no Panna Cotta on the dessert menu. We left the service charge on solely because our waitress was brilliant, but as far as the kitchen is concerned, a great disappoin**ent. Butcombe, you need to review your menus, this is not the first time we have been to one of your pubs and been disappointed with your menu, so we will be taking a break and having our weekly lunches elsewhere.

Visited with Family for Sunday Lunch, no complaints just six empty plates. Recommend Chicken, Beef and the Nutroast all well presented and freshly cooked. Friendly staff and we were not rushed at all. We will return.

Friendly staff, lovely breakfast and comfy bed. However the room was well past its best and was extremely shabby. Bathroom is in dire need of modernisation with possibly the worst shower experience we've had in a hotel/B&B; secondary glazing did not hide the cracked open window; decor was dated and scrappy including horrid lighting. An old dirty heater was an unusual feature. To be honest our room was overpriced and disappointing. We are aware that there are better rooms so you might be lucky 🤷‍♀️

On arrival at this Cotswold village pub, it looked tired both externally and internally and is in need of a major makeover. Our experience wasn't great here and it's very expensive so be warned. With a lack of staff and over £30 for 4 drinks, it's not a place we'd rush to again as plenty of other more reasonable pub's in the area.

Stayed here for 2 nights on dinner bed and breakfast. Very friendly staff, bar and dining area old world charm, though in need of decoration. Well kept log fires. Good beer and food was good. Starters big enough for a main course. Steak cooked exactly how husband liked it. Room was the Haystack, lovely comfy bed, quality linens and gorgeous bathroom amenities. Let down by decor which was very tired. Breakfast was amazing, eggs florentine best ever. Lucy very friendly and even gave fresh cups when had more lovely coffee which is in a cafetiere .Entrance area needs decorating and TLC. We would stay here again as the charm and helpfulness of staff made it a lovely stay. We were told new management taking over so maybe decorating and maintenance will be soon.

Called in on a Friday lunchtime, the place is very cluttered with nik naks and has an old world antique feel. Walking up the bar the lady serving was pleasant enough but not over friendly. We ordered sandwiches with chips, everything was fine, nothing special. All in all nothing much wrong but just not great.

Excellent team who made us feel very welcome. Great dinner and breakfast (normally stressful for a dairy-free and gluten-free person). Excellent service, which was quick but not intrusive and very well informed. A lovely pub in a great location with a superb team working there. Thank you

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting the area and attending a nearby music festival. Immediately we noticed how shabby and tired the place looked ....nothing like the photos on their website 😔 The room and bathroom were very small and dark. It was most certainly not worth almost £200 per night!! Unfortunately we won't be back or recommend staying here to anyone until some refurbishment is done
