I arrived and was first given a room on the third floor. When I got off the elevator, I was immediately hit by the smell of cigarette smoking, which permeated the whole floor.
I went back down and asked for another room. I was then given a room on the first floor. My new room was about a third of the way down the hall. It was apparent someone further down the hall was smoking because I could smell smoke when I reached my door. It is very obvious that while they advertise 100% no smoking, they don't enforce their policy.
My room had issues as well. The light over the sink was not working correctly. It produced only a dim light that could better be described as a night light rather than lighting for shaving or applying makeup. Additionally, the lever for controlling the water flow at the sink had to be placed in an odd position to switch the water off. If it were not set precisely, the water would run.
The TV took a lot of work to operate. Finding channels was frustrating because there were huge spaces between them, and the paper guide placed next to the TV had a tiny font, making it difficult to read.
For the charge, I would expect a better experience. I won't use this hotel again when I visit St. Charles.
