Taru Villas Kandy Reviews

Beautiful property, genuine service, very bad location , next to a major road and can hear car/ truck traffic all day long. Rooms are too close to the restaurant area which made it very noisy early in the morning if you wish to sleep.

Looking for a beautiful restored estate home with impeccable service and delicious dining? Choose Taru Villa!  We spent three days exploring Kandy and neighboring region. The hotel is tucked behind some commercial buildings, but once the gates open and you move up the driveway, it all fades away. The hotel is elegant with an attention to details. Each space is carefully arranged to make you feel comfortable.  The staff are what really makes Taru Villa shine. Led by the hotel manager, the staff are welcoming and warm. You couldn’t ask for anything more. The food was excellent. The conversation was even better. We highly recommend to anyone. Well done Taru Villa, well done!

Breakfast and dinner are very good, both are ordered meals. The service staff are very warm and polite, and they send you popsicles to cool you down as soon as you check in. The room is also very large, but the only drawback is that the room is a little dark and has no windows.

The passion fruit, lemon and mint ice cream that came instead of a welcome drink was absolutely delicious! It was a homemade ice cream on a stick, and it was probably the best thing I ate in Sri Lanka! The interior of the hotel was very tasteful and had a great atmosphere.

The hotel is nice, with dinner and breakfast provided. It is not far from the city center. It is OK.

There is a different world when you enter the door. The environment is super beautiful. You can choose Western and Sri Lankan breakfast. Dinner is different every day (stayed for 2 nights). The grilled fish is very good

It is a historic building, everything is good, but the location is a problem, it is surrounded by roads and railways, if you are afraid of noise, you should not choose it

The hotel is very nice, a bit like a small gallery. The room was beyond imagination and the bed was so comfortable that I fell asleep immediately! Hygiene is also very good. Then every staff member in the hotel is super nice, especially the kitchen. No matter what time we come back, they always ask if we want to cook something for us, and the dishes they cook are also delicious! !

Magnificent villa with excellent service!

The reserved room bedroom has a loft that can sleep 3-4 people. The public areas and rooms are well decorated and maintained. The location is not far from the city center, but close to the road and railway. It is noisy at other times except at night. The hot water switch was hidden in the closet and was not turned on when checking in. There were no additional instructions. The front desk got off work at 10pm and could not be contacted, so I had to take a cold shower. There was a small gecko in the bathtub. Except for the soup, dinner was pretty unpalatable. The two types of fish I ordered were overcooked, dry, bitter, and maybe burnt. When I first checked in at 2 pm, I wanted to have laundry delivered to me. I was told that if I picked it up before departure the next morning, there would be an additional fee. However, I checked into another hotel of the same brand the day before and had laundry delivered at 10 pm the next morning before checking out. Washing, drying and ironing are done for free. What’s also strange is that the front desk helps you fill out the satisfaction survey feedback when leaving the store and asks you to sign it, while the previous one asked you to fill it out realistically. When you see the high score, you are also asked to provide suggestions for improvement. The difference in service awareness is evident.

Nice service

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel just outside of Kandy. Housed in a beautifully converted colonial-era home, the property has a lot of charm and character, complemented by attentive, genuinely kind staff who made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The pool, around 10 meters in length, was a great place to relax. The water was cool and refreshing without being too cold – perfect after a day of exploring. You can hear both the railway and the road from the property, however we found neither disturbed our sleep. In fact, we had an excellent night’s sleep every night – the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the atmosphere overall was very restful. The food was a real highlight. Dinner in particular was outstanding – a variety of dishes freshly cooked to order and served at the table. The half-board option is well worth it, and the meals really added to the overall experience. The hotel is a little outside of Kandy’s busy center. We did the walk once (about 40 minutes) but wouldn’t necessarily recommend it unless you’re up for a bit of an adventure. Fortunately, Tuk Tuks are easy to find and affordable. We used Uber while in Kandy to hail Tuk Tuks and had a mostly smooth experience with that too. Overall, we’d highly recommend this hotel – not just for its great food, but especially for the wonderful team that runs it. Their warmth and attention to detail really made our stay special.

Stunning hotel, but when we arrived, they tried to give us a room we didn’t book. I then showed them the room type and we were able to get it. They then said that dinner was included, but when I looked at our booking, it was not. When we checked out, they said we had no dinner charges, which can only mean they were going to charge us. I found them to be sneaky. Beware. The building itself is stunning. An old home that was once a British government officials residence. That said, you have a train track on top of you and a super busy road below you that you can constantly hear. It’s a toss up to stay here.

Fabulous hotel with truely lovely staff. Big shout out to Prashadi who miraculously found a ruby that had fallen out of my ring unnoticed by me. Legend!! I’ll be back. The food was also very good with local Sri Lankan specialties. The grounds are lovely and the pool sparkling.
