Wonderful staff and service. We stayed here the night before a trip to Beamish Museum. Easy to find and within easy reach of beamish. Reviews made me sceptical, but a call to Sam, the manager, reassured me that I should not cancel. I am glad I didn’t on account of the staff, service & food, but the hotel rooms, facilities and cleanliness left the accommodation aspects sorely lacking. They are aware of this and I believe changes are imminent. Food - excellent quality, hot and plentiful, although the 3 for £15 tapas was poor value - portions need to be bigger. Breakfast beautiful, plentiful and hot. Only disappoin**ent really was the rooms, although bed was comfy.

To start off, the rooms desperately need a little bit of TLC however that’s the only thing i could even think about being a negative! The manager Sam & all of his staff, although they are such a young team could not do enough for the 4 of us from minute one, and made our stay excellent. The live music on Friday is again absolutely excellent and really helps the pub stand out from others. We’ll definitely be back closer to Chris**as when we come back to visit family once more.

The place could be an absolute gem. You have the staff there who are so friendly and helpful, could not fault them at all. The management just need to do the repairs to the place that it deserves. If its broken, for god sake repair it .... simples. Check in was very easy. On entering our room, rather on the small size, it was very cold. Admittedly the weather was miserable so we quickly turned up the heating to full and went for a drink and something to eat. We were offered a table for the full night if we wanted. Food was good, but the plates cold that turned the food cold..... The ran out of quite a bit of drink whilst we were there, apparently a problem (human error) whilst ordering.. The main negative would the VERY thin walls. You could hear every word from next door.... not good guys. All in all, the place is in a brilliant position and easy to get to. It was clean, the staff brilliant and even with the negatives I would stay again.

Very friendly staff Would have liked a chair in the bedroom and although the bed foot was ornate and white and obvious both myself and my husband kept hitting our knees on them as they did stick out.

Easy check in. Staff very friendly & courteous. We were looking forward to staying in the "beautifully refurbished boutique rooms", sadly they didn't match our expectations. Firstly, the hall & stairway to the rooms could have done with a thorough clean to get rid of cobwebs that greeted us and the stairs didnt look like they had been hovered in a while. We were in the family room and the bed was extremely lumpy and uncomfortable. The floors were so noisy I was nervous about waking others up when I got up in the night. The dressing table was in a really dark corner with no light so unusable for getting yourself ready. The bathroom tiles looked like they had been put on when the wall was plastered as the grout appeared to be plaster, it all looked a mess, especially as a few of them were loose. The sofa bed cushions were stained. Plenty of sockets but no USB points. No bluetooth speaker docking station as advertised. Food and service was very good, big portions. Tables were very sticky though. Location for going to Beamish is great as it's only 4 miles.

The room was disappointing considering the charge. Tired furnishings, extensive evidence of a roof leak, poor standard of cleaning. Breakfast on the first morning of two was appalling! Porridge is not just oats with hot milk poured over the top… poached eggs were badly cooked, black pudding was undercooked. We also noticed another couple had left almost all of their full English breakfasts. The second morning was better but not outstanding. Had we been paying £60 per night, I wouldn’t have minded so much, but it wasn’t worth £100 per night.

We are going to Newcastle - Got this at a very good price - better than most city hotels, and breakfast included. From others’ photos, it’s a bit quirky - and the floors all creak. Needs a bit of TLC! But good sized room (all rooms are named after hop varieties. They stop serving food at 8:45 pm - but good meal.
