Luxury hotel in the Laotian wilderness. We arrived on a slow boat and spent New Year's Eve there. Unfortunately, no festive event was held at the hotel, which was a little disappointing, because there is absolutely nothing to do in the village. More about traveling around Laos in the MarsyTravel tg channel About the hotel itself: – it is located farthest from the pier, upon arrival you are greeted by an electric car, but then if you want to take a walk to the center of the village you will have to walk through the dark and hills for about 15 minutes - hotel on the mountain, there will be a little exercise to go to the pool or restaurant -breakfast is delicious and generous -wonderful bungalow with great view, but limited supply of hot water -the water in the unheated pool is quite cold

The views from our room overlooking the river was lovely. The pool was okay and pretty cold. However it was let down by poor quality food. The dinner was a buffet and mediocre at best and the breakfast not a lot better. The staff were not particularly friendly.

This was our accommodation only for 1 night in between boat cruising to Luang Prabang. We arrived around sundown by van with others from our boat and I happened to be first to the desk to check in, up some rather steep stairs. The manager just stared at me (no greeting) as I handed him my passport. Without a word, he made a copy, shoved a paper for me to sign and a key while another staff member was taking others' passports over my shoulder. When I asked which way to our room, he vaguely pointed to the right without looking up. He offered no additional instructions as one usually receives when checking in, no help with luggage, nothing. I asked if he had a map of the grounds and he said no. Luckily a bellman saw us struggling with a suitcase and showed us to our bungalow, which was on the lower level, down a steep, uneven, gravelly road. As we were headed there I noticed that the restaurant was at the top of another rather long and steep hill from the check in area and asked if we had to now walk back up two steep hills to dinner. He said we could call the front desk for a ride when we were ready. Our room was lovely and spacious. A/C was cool. The shower hot water ran cold after 10 mins but after waiting for about 20 mins it was back to hot again for a second shower. We got settled in a bit and were ready for dinner. We called for a ride and waited 15 mins...no one showed up, so we walked and were winded, sweaty, and pissed when we arrived to dinner. Dinner was a buffet, it was ok. We stopped by the office on the way back to our room to ask about luggage pick up in the morning. The manager that I encountered earlier was now very pleasant and smiling and happy to pick up our luggage. He also had someone give us a ride back that night. I don't know, jobs are stressful, but I feel like checking in groups of people coming of these cruising boats is probably pretty routine. The next day we were picked up along with our luggage, dropped off at breakfast and headed back to our boat.

Check in is quick with a welcome drink and a cold towel. We had a cabin just by the main arrival parking and it was well places, other guests complained about the hill lower down towards the river and issue with getting a buggy to collect them. The room is massive with Aircon and a ceiling fan, but there's no in room safe. The wet room shower space is glorious, although we had issues getting the water temperature right as it was too hot to be comfortable at times. We arrived just as the sun had set and didn't have time to use the pool. Our dinner was included with our package and it was ok, a buffet style. The ala carte menu was priced in dollars and looked expensive all things considered. If your boat leaves early, breakfast started at 6:30 so we could have a reasonable meal before rejoining our cruise. With hindsight 2 nights would have been better than just 1.

The hotel has a great location at a midpoint on the Mekong from the Thai border crossing and Luang Prabang . It’s a good choice from those available with comfortable rooms , aircon , beds and decent shower . If occupancy allowed it could benefit from some investment to raise the levels a notch . The pool has great views of the river and sunset .. but it isn’t heated so even in the hot afternoon it was pretty bracing The food and drink selection could be improved . Our best course was a noodle soup breakfast but the evening set meal was fairly lacking in taste or imagination and could be so much better . Our boat that brought us to the hotel had home cooked Lao food showing what can be provided from a cuisine where simple fresh ingredients are brought to life

What an amazing hotel to stay in after the first day of our Mekong river cruise! Our bungalow had floor to ceiling windows in the bedroom and shower with the most stunning views of the river - the sunset which was just as we arrived was breathtaking! The room was lovely with toiletries, robes and tea and coffee making facilities. We had our own private veranda overlooking the river and the staff brought our pre-dinner drinks to us so we could sip them whilst enjoying the view. The owner was ever present and addressed every guest by name (no mean feat with so many guests). The only let down was that the food was just ok, my croissant at breakfast wasn’t thoroughly cooked, but that is a minor thing. I would 100% recommend!

Amazing. Pictures are not fully capturing the beauty of the place and the spectacular view. Beautiful room, service was impeccable and food was also very good both at dinner and breakfast. Definitely recommended. ....................

If you pass Pakbeng on your Mekong river tour this is a lovely hotel for both singles and couple. My recommendation is that you stay at least two nights, so you can both see and feel the atmosphere of Pakbeng. The rooms are superb and very well kept for a hotel that is 8 years. The staff is even more superb. Very very friendly and whenever you need something they help you immediately. The pool area is great with a beautiful view over the river. For us ( we stayed 4 nights) the menu can be a little more creative. Mostly standard Thai/Laos style. Don’t miss this fancy hotel in small Pakbeng and try to stay 2 nights

This Resort is set upon a rise with specular views looking down onto the Mekong River. From our room and balcony, we were able to enjoy this vista through the leafy trees. The whole complex nestles into the landscaped gardens, with the Restaurant and pool at the top. Our room was spacious spotlessly clean and well air conditioned. We were able to dine under the sky with great views, the food was well prepared and Menu extensive. Staff were young and just so attentive and personal all overseen by Sharif the Manager who is the Resorts number one asset. Le Grand also offer part and full day tours.

I stayed one night coming from a boat tour on the Mekong. The hotel itself is amazing - stunning location, great sunset, nice pool area. The rooms were spot on, good beds, rain showers, well-equipped. This is definitely a good place to relax a few days on a trip through Laos. On the contrary, the staff of the hotel didn't really speak English and was not exactly friendly. The continental breakfast options were rather poor. Also, they charged $10 for a TukTuk ride to town, which was quite a bit overpriced given that it's like 2km away.

What a lovely hotel. Our only regret is that we didn’t book an additional night. The staff were absolutely fantastic, efficient and friendly. We had a lovely dinner overlooking the Mekong River and they had a bottle of Cava on the wine list that was chilled to perfection and reasonably priced. The room and shower had a fantastic view of the Mekong. The staff obviously work very long hours but were so happy, efficient and experienced. If you have a choice of hotels when on the slow boat I’d definitely recommend this one. If you have the chance, book an additional night.

Like virtually everyone who stops in Pakbeng, I was here strictly as an overnight on a Mekong cruise. The hotel is a bit of absolutely lovely luxury in truly the middle of nowhere (with apologies to Pakbeng). The hotel has transportation ready to go to make the quick trip from your boat to the hotel. Check in is unusually well organized, which is a real blessing, given that a fair number of people arrive at once, who are tired, and want to settle into their room. The rooms are simply lovely. Beautiful wooden floors. Very comfortable beds. Extremely nice bathrooms. The rooms have AC and fans to boot. Everything is extremely clean. Outside each room is a little sitting area with a view of the Mekong and the entire hotel is situated with a spectacular view just above it. I had both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. Dinner is a set course meal that was lovely and fit the ticket perfectly. Very high-quality food but also didn’t take too long after a long day. Breakfast is a very nice buffet. I believe you could also get eggs or pancakes made too. The hotel has a small pool with a great view. Sadly, I didn’t get the chance to use it. I suspect this is common with guests who arrive late on the boat and leave early the next morning. I should mention that the hotel manager is completely on top of everything at this place. He really deserves full marks for making sure everything runs like clockwork, and is truly lovely in a place where I suspected as far from easy to do so. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Lives up to its name. The room was lovely. Seperate little chalet type with own outside terrace. The shower room overlooks the Mekong river with superb views. Unfortunately the pool was closed due to some problem. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant and the breakfast was also very nice. Staff very friendly and even knew your name which makes it that more special.

Lovely hotel above the town with wonderful views of the river. Beautiful room in an individual building with private balcony and a shower with a view. Very friendly staff who are always very happy to help. There are no accessible rooms, every part of the hotel is accessed via steep steps, but the views are wonderful. Nice infinity pool with river views. We stayed two nights and enjoyed having the hotel to ourselves during the day.
