GGuest UserBefore my trip, I booked a quadruple room at the Suimeikan hotel in Gero, Japan, through Trip.com. The booking confirmation stated '2 floor mattresses,' but the pictures showed two beds. I assumed the room configuration would be two beds and two floor mattresses. However, the front desk assigned me a room with four floor mattresses. I felt this wasn't what I had booked, and after almost an hour of fruitless discussion with the front desk, they insisted this was the room type I reserved. They said if I wanted a room with two beds, it would be considered an upgrade and require an additional payment of 17,600 JPY for two nights, which I obviously couldn't accept. Ultimately, I had to call Trip.com to complain. Trip.com's communication with the hotel also led nowhere, and in the end, Trip.com covered the cost. I really have to praise Trip.com's service here; their response to my complaint was very quick, and their solution after failing to negotiate with the hotel was decisive. I'm very satisfied with that, which is why I typically book all my travel through Trip.com. While their prices might sometimes be slightly higher than other platforms, their after-sales service is absolutely reliable. When issues arise, you realize that this slight premium is definitely worth it.

AAllblue1772This is by far the most traditional Japanese-style hotel I've ever stayed in, and it set a wonderful tone for our Nagoya trip. My parents absolutely loved it. **Service:** Standard Japanese service – very attentive. Although English communication was a bit challenging, they diligently used translation software. **Facilities:** Impeccable! I enjoyed my favorite onsen; the outdoor bath was truly exceptional, and the indoor one was also very spacious. The room decor was classic, just like something out of a Japanese drama, and someone even came to prepare our beds in the evening. At first, I worried it might be cold, but the electric blanket underneath was incredibly warm. So unique! For dinner, even though the variety was limited, the chicken wings were exceptionally delicious, and the fishball hotpot was also very good. My dad even complimented the rice! **Cleanliness:** Very good. Despite the older facilities, everything was spotless. **Environment:** The outdoor foot onsen looked so interesting, but I didn't get to try it this time. You could easily spend half a day just exploring the hotel itself. If you're not rushed, staying two days to fully soak it all in would be wonderful. The hotel is located at the highest point in Gero. Walking slowly downhill from there, time seemed to slow down, and everything felt peaceful and serene. I will always remember this place. ☺️

GGuest UserLovely onsen ryokan. Staff don’t really speak English so there’s a bit of trying to figure things out for yourself.  Nevertheless, service was friendly and helpful as best they could.  The outdoor onsen is really relaxing and because it’s not a crowded hotel, both times I went I had it to myself as did my wife and kids in the ladies area.  We picked the room with its own outdoor onsen tub which is a great option if you don’t want to use the non-private ones.  You can apparently book private onsens but they did not have any available for us (possibly because we arrived slightly late in the day).  Food was excellent for both dinner and breakfast.  Kids couldn’t;’quite enjoy the onsens cause they found the water too hot so you may want to make sure your kids can before you decided to splurge.  One final point, the ryokan is located down a tiny road on the right just before Google Maps tells you that you have reached.

CConstanceThis appears to be a family-run business with warm hearted hospitality. The hosts didn’t speak much English but we managed to use a digital translator to communicate. Am grateful the hotel provides free shuttle pick up from Hida Osaka Train station. We had to get our previous hotel to ring Senyukan to inform them about the expected timing of our train arrival. We appreciate the immense patience of the hotel shuttle driver. She put up with 2 changes of timing of our train arrival because of significant delays from the Highway bus from Nagoya to Takayama where we had to connect to Hida Osaka Train station. We had booked to stay 3 nights and loved every moment of the stay. The kaiseki Hida Beef dinner had the perfect balance of sweet/sour/ salty taste. Each dinner also had a cooked fish either grilled, steamed or poached, in addition to sashimi ( raw seafood). The soup was exquisitely flavourful as was the freshly prepared salad and tempura ( deep fried vegetable fritters). All the food items were plated with pleasing artistry. We had booked the hotel for its hotsprings which lived up to their therapeutic reputation. Although the sex-segregated pools were for hotel guests, we found ourselves often the only ones who used them at the time. Highly recommend this hotel for its affordability and wonderful value-added hospitality. The only downside of the hotel is that the wifi signal is not always stable in the guest rooms. But wifi is more accessible from the hotel lobby.

GGuest UserThis is the best onsen hotel we’ve stayed in, among those we’ve stayed in for the past 12 years! We stayed here for 2 nights. We’ve extremely grateful to the hosts for their outstanding service and hospitality from the heart. Loved the thoughtfully varied menu for each meal. The establishment is spotlessly clean and excellently maintained. Each morning, our towels and yukata (hotel gowns) were replaced. So were the amenities ( fragrant green tea packs, snacks). The housekeeping staff even offered to mop our rooms after only one night’s stay. The wifi was also fast and sustained well in the guest room and public lounge areas. There are facilities to cater to a wide range of age groups from seniors like us and children too. There were ample resting chairs in the lounge and on the way to the historian’s well as guest rooms. The best facility was the hot springs! They are exactly as depicted in the hotel website. Numerous indoor pools of various temperature all have the renowned ‘beautifying’ odorless alkaline water. My skin felt so smooth and moisturized after only one soak. What’s more the hot springs stay open for in-house guests from 10.30 am to 11 pm and day-trip visitors from 10.30 am to 8 pm. In-house guests can also use the hotsprings early from 6 to 9 am. There is a European dry sauna as well as wet steam rooms in both make and female hotspring areas. We would love to stay here again!

MMiu Yin WongWhat a satisfying trip! The duplex room had a living room on the lower level and a bedroom, bathroom, and open-air bath on the upper level, fulfilling my long-held dream of staying in a duplex. The hotel was huge, with public baths on the 2nd and 8th floors respectively. Both were large and very comfortable to soak in, but the open-air bath in the room was even more convenient and relaxing, especially in the morning while enjoying the view – a wonderful experience. The room was fully equipped. Dinner was arranged at the Western restaurant, and my husband said the sound system there was incredibly expensive. Breakfast was a buffet, mainly Japanese-style, which didn't quite suit our tastes.

GGuest UserAn average quality onsen hotel in Gero. Not the best type but also better than many. It is a matter of one's choice in spending more money for better choices or not, as the price range in Gero can be 100% difference for the best and those with much lower price. All onsen are old in the hardware facilities, but traditional.

GGuest UserThe train arrived at Gero Station. I originally planned to walk to the hotel, but I saw the hotel sign as soon as I got out of the station. It was quite a surprise. The check-in process was very smooth. When we went through the formalities, the luggage had been delivered to the room. Then we arranged dinner and breakfast, explained the bathing time, and ladies could specially choose their favorite bathrobes, each one was different. The only drawback was that the bathhouse on B1 did not have an open-air bath, and the men's and women's baths changed at midnight. The next morning, I got up early to go to the open-air bath on the 5th floor. The hotel also had several buses to Gero Station the next morning.

AAnonymous User+ : beautiful, traditional Japanese hotel with nice tatami rooms. The room was spacious and confortable with all necessary amenities. The outdoor onsen was great and almost empty when I went. The breakfast buffet is ok. - : a LOT of stairs in the building (very difficult for elderly and disabled people, but also people with big suitcases!). There is a car that theoretically can pick you up at the train station or drop you off but I couldn’t use it when I arrived because I received no information on it beforehand or when I left because it only starts at 10am. The onsen is not tattoo friendly and you have to pay for the tattoo cover. Staff was kind but most of the time unable to offer solutions Overall, a beautiful ryokan but for the price, you can find better.

YYuzuojianThe shaking of the elevator 🛗 spills the cup of coffee. I felt very dangerous. Welcome drinks were very good. The service of Oden 🍢 and Ramen 🍜 is the best. The private open-air bath was not good, but the underground bath was good. For dinner, grilled meat on a pottery plate 🥩 Hobamiso is delicious. Free alcohol drinks were also good. The water splitting of the sub-flowing water in Hida was the most fun. At breakfast, Orange 🍊 was very sweet and delicious. I wish I had ice cream. In terms of price, I will give you a passing score. In addition, please provide customer service. I would like to use it again. Fireworks 🎇 also looked a little!
