Booked this hotel as a last minute trip and we were not disappointed. Quirky olde world feel to the property. Room was small but very clean and bed was comfortable. Toiletries provided were nicely scented. Restaurant cosy and food delicious. The goats cheese starter was great and the salmon dish really tasty. Great choice of breakfast items and everything reasonably priced.

Have ate here before and its always been dead on. Easter Tuesday was a different expierwence. It really wasn't as busy as they where making out. Just a load of untrained staff winging it. Had to ask 3 times for red sauce, for kids. Asked twice for more hot water and also a glass of water. Very poor service. £8.50 for a selection of breads which consisted of a crusty bap and a bit of wheaten bread. The menu clearly stated there was 3 dips included and farmhouse butter. We got 2 tastless dips and basic butter portions. The breads went back and they argued and still charged for them. The manager needs to learn about commas because she doesn't understand the menu. Anyhow won't be back. Attitude of management was disgraceful. Overpriced cheap rubbish and the toilets where rotten with no toilet roll.

Called in Sunday for lunch with my partner. The waitress was very friendly and took our order promptly. We had opted to have the Sunday roasts, 'Beef and Turkey&Ham'. After about 15mins the meals were served nice and hot, my plate had two thick slices of roast beef served with mashed & roast potatoes, a yorkshire pudding plus seasonal vegtables and gravy. My partner's plate had generous slices of turkey and ham, stuffing and the accompanying vegtables. The meats were very flavoursome and the vegtables perfectly cooked with that ideal bit of bite, not the overcooked mushy type as served up by many other resturants. We both enjoyed the food, the presentation, we'd certainly have no hesitation in recommending it to our frinds and will be returning next time we're in Portaferry.

We were out and about looking for a lunch with a local taste of the sea. What could be better than a steaming bowl of fish chowder and hand made wheaten bread. Great little bar restaurant on the edge of the sea with friendly staff. Big pot of tea to finish!

Booked Sunday lunch for a family event, nice place, polite young waitress service. Disappointed that I did not get the window seat I had booked some months ago in preparation for the visit. However, the check in was nice enough and I didn't make a fuss that the table wasn't as booked and agreed nd confirmed couple days prior, the food made up for the Disappoin**ent, beautiful seafood, fresh served immaculate. All in all we enjoyed our time at the hotel, beautiful rest room and still some.ol character from when I recalled many a Saturday in the Portaferry in the 1970s. Hope to stay with you next time, Thank you

I had an unexpected four night stay in the Portaferry Hotel and I simply cannot praise the hotel and all the staff enough. Both Siobhan and Adele, at reception, made me feel so welcome and always made sure I had everything I needed, the young Bistro staff were an absolute credit to the hotel and the chef's breakfasts and dinners were quite exceptional. The Full Irish Breakfast (which they very happily made vegetarian for me) was so delicious and filling I couldn't manage lunches! The rooms were incredibly bright and comfortable and the views, over Strangford Lough, were memorising. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the hotel to anyone looking for food or accommodation in the area.

My husband and I decided to go to the Portferry Hotel for old times sake, as it had been our 50th wedding anniversary day before. On arrival we were not greeted,y husband had to ask for menus. Anyway we decided on 2 starters each as we didn't really fancy any of the mains on lunch menu. I ordered tapenade with breads and farmhouse butter. Firstly the butter was the usual small pats wrapped in gold foil with creamery name on! I really am at a loss to say just how bad the tapenade was, it was vile a very strong vinegar taste, inedible, I have had tapenade many, many times nothing like this. My husbands crispy belly pork, wasn't any better it had gravy all over it to take the crispness out of it, and a very nasty fatty taste ugh!. I am not going to go into the other 2 starters or I'll be here all night. I complained to the waiter who said he would speak to chef. He did not appear back! Very bad I feel and I may add expensive! Will never be back to Portaferry hotel, scandalous they get away with these standards of food. Very ,very poor.
