Good hotel. The location is convenient for travel. The area is so-so, but you just have to put up with it. The reception is not open at night, but this is also typical for Italy. Overall, everything is good and in line with expectations.

In general, it is a clean hotel, but the room and bathroom were a little small for us.

The room is quite big, but the toilet seat is loose and the quilt cover is also very sloppy.

Facilities: The facilities and environment are average, but they are clean and tidy. It takes about ten minutes to go to the train station. The bus is not very convenient.

I have been going on vacations for a long time but never have I experienced a level of disrespect and unprofessionalism before. Hotel Balilla is all that, and worst. Our whole experience started with the hotel owner Carlo, literally bickering at the front of the hotel with my friend’s sister who was just there to visit her brother. He came at her in a threatening manner accusing her of illegitimately staying in the hotel when we haven’t even spent the night yet. He refused to listen to her explanations and continued arguing in front of the guest. Our reservation came with breakfast but only got to use it a couple of times due to scheduling limitations. The breakfast starts at 0730, which is too late in my opinion, especially if you’re a guest who’s wanting to travel early to other places in Italy. You’d have no access to drinking water if you need it as it’s just not offered. We managed to avail of the breakfast a few times we decided to have a late start but were treated differently for unknown reasons. We were denied seats saying the tables were “occupato” when there’s literally no one in the small breakfast area. My friend had to go upstairs in her room to have her breakfast the one time she went, while I had to insist on the seat I wanted. As a paying guest, I feel this is just flat out discrimination. I asked some of the guests if maybe I needed to make a reservation, but said they didn’t have to, which is how it should be! That part would just remain a mystery to me I guess, as the owner just spoke Italian to us the whole time, even though I managed to hear him speak a little English to another guest at one time. Oh and you’re not allowed to eat whatever he has prepared on the table. There were packaged pancakes, toast, etc, but all was offered was coffee and a croissant. The bed was really uncomfortable and each guest only had one pillow (paper thin!) to use. Overall, I do not recommend this place. The location is sketchy and seems unsafe as indicated by the need to constantly lock/secure the front door. Do your research and read the comments from other guests who’s had horrible experience from this place, as well! Good luck.

Very Good

The hotel is lovely and clean, and air conditioning included. Breakfast is good. Good location to Termini, where you can get a train directly to the airport. There are a couple of lovely Italian restaurants just around the corner. Close to the metro also, but be very careful, full of pick pockets. We walked to colleuseum from hotel. The Trevi fountain, Spanish steps are walking distance too, but you might want to take a coffee break half way. The host is lovely and very friendly. Room was cleaned every day. Very happy with our stay at the hotel.

We had a wonderful time in Rome with excellent service at Hotel Balilla. The staff helped us with everything we needed. The location was great - close to the Colosseum and the trainstation. But the street was quiet. Clean, tidy and nice room.

Hotel Balilla was a perfect place to stay during our visit to Rome. It was great value for money, great location, wonderful staff who were very helpful and welcoming. Nothing bad to say about this hotel, would definitely return and recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay hers, the hotel was clean and air conditioned, the staff were friendly and helpful. It is a walk to the centre but public transport nearby. Was reasonably priced. Beds were comfortable and rooms cleaned every day.

I rarely write reviews but this hotel was so bad that I feel obligated to warn others: • First the neighborhood this hotel is located in is the ” hood “. There were people sleeping on the street, broken bottles and groups of men drinking on the streets. I would never return to the hotel in the dark as I do not think it would be safe. • There is a metal key to the front door of the hotel and also to your room. You are given one key per room. • The front door to the hotel is locked at all times, this tells you something about the neighborhood. • There is no night receptionist on duty at the hotel. The staff leaves in the evening and returns in the morning. • If you put used towels on the floor indicating you want them changed, they will just hang the used ones up on the towel rack. I know this because aside from not looking fresh, they were damp. This happened repeatedly. • They only accept cash as payment for the city tax. I can only wonder why? • The bed is uncomfortable. • You can hear in the toilet upstairs when it flushes as though it where right in front of you. • You have to hold the shower head, otherwise water will shoot out all over the floor. • For the money there are much better options in Rome and around the train/Metro station

Initially we were given a room on a higher floor which was fine. But after, I was given a room on the lower ground floor which was terrible. Even though it was clean, everyone can see into the room if you don’t close the shutters. And if you close the shutters there is no natural light at all. It is also very noisy, you can hear everything from reception. The bad part was the bed. Very lumpy and I got severe back pain from it. I was not happy the owner did not even apologise but instead blamed the air conditioner for my back pain. To add to this, the owner was accused of hitting one of the female guests. I left my room to her screaming as she left the hotel. Not sure who was lying in this instance but the owners attitude does not do him any favours. I believe her to be honest. I would personally avoid staying there. There are better value for money places in the city and at the least the owner is rude and will blatantly lie without remorse. He said I didn’t pay for breakfast which is simply not true, I just questioned whether he had charged for the waters already and he said this because of my google review about the place.

Great small hotel. Room was clean tidy and ample room. Air con and wi fi were great. Good restaurants nearby.. 20 min walk to termini. 25 mins to colosseum. Only criticism is the breakfast, toast a croissant or a yoghurt was all that was available. Might have caught them on an off day but we never bothered going back to find out. Next time in Rome I will be staying closer to the centre.

The worst behavior i have ever met in my whole life. My family and I arrived at the balilla hotel around midnight - Wednesday to Thursday - and as soon as we got there, we realized that the reception closes at 11pm. Our travel agent CDF Travel did not inform us about that important detail, as they should. A few minutes after being outside the hotel and while trying to call our agent, other guests of the hotel arrived and let us in. As soon as we got in, someone appeared yelling, threatening, offending us and making gestures against us to get out of the hotel and repeating the hotel’s rule that the reception is open until11pm. My husband, my two teenage kids and I were terrified by his behavior. We were almost begging him for 30 minutes to let us stay because we did not have anywhere else to go and we were extremely tired. After 40 minutes he literary threw us the keys of our rooms. Unfortunately, the bad behavior continued during our stay, trying to find several reasons to yell at us and offend us.
