We had lunch here in early January. The food was excellent. However the service was poor and the table position even worse. They are clearly trying to squeeze too many covers in, though they have quite a lot of space. To be specific the table was against a big pillar blocking any view from the window. There was a narrow thoroughfare by the table, sufficient to let one member of staff pass. All in all there were about 100 staff movements past the table. There is a good clear view of the gents toilet some 5m away. My wife does so wish men would finish doing up their flies before they open the door. There were no towels or hand drying facilities in the ladies when we arrived. Despite being so close to passing staff it took 15 minutes for the desert plate to be cleard. In that time we gave up on the idea of ordering tea/coffee, and instead asked for the bill, which came a few minutes later. 20 mins later someone came with the card machine. We did not add service and the member of staffed didn't seem surprised. Let me reiterate, the food was very good, with a good choice on the menu, good flavours and good presentation but one doesn't go just for the food. If you do go, go when it is likely to be quiet as you will probably get a better experience.

Clean and good value for money. Service a little quirky but this did not detract from the experience. Food very nice! Good mix of cosy pub and contemporary restaurant. Would definitely recommend/book again

This is a beautiful B&B and has been recently refurbished so don't be put off by the old images on TripAdvisor. Beautiful views from our balcony in room 3 and lovely decor. Staff were super attentive and helpful. Would definitely return.

We were at a wedding in Oakham and booked a room for one night. We were given Room 10, which overlooked the bins and side car park with a view of the village!!! Not the nicest view. The room was incredibly hot and it wasn’t that hot outside. The beds were ok. The room was nothing special, adequate. It was all a bit drab to be honest. Not at all boutique like. Not that big and there was also a “food” smell in the air as well, but we did arrive on a busy Saturday afternoon. There was a nasty step down in the bathroom; we were ok with it, but you had to be careful. My husband couldn’t get a taxi into Oakham and the Staff were very helpful and drove him into Oakham, which was much appreciated; thank you. The Staff were very polite and helpful at all times. Breakfast was lovely. All in all, adequate, but I was expecting a bit more than “adequate” really.

We have stayed over here a number of times in recent years and a recent refurbishment of bedrooms has made a significant difference. On previous stays the rooms were tired, shabby and the beds uncomfortable. The rooms now are comfortable and well presented with attractive decor. All the things you need for a short stay including a fan for hot weather, nespresso machine and nice toiletries. The restaurant area itself is always very inviting and breakfast was well cooked with a nice selection of hot and cold choices. Hambleton itself is beautiful and a lovely place to spend time.

5 out of 5 - frirndly with great food. Looked after the family - 8 adults and 3 children! Great location in a nice quiet village but with easy access to all that rutland has to offer. Patient with the children and sometimes fussy eating habits and adults wanting to wat late.

Delicious Sunday lunch today. Lovely staff, well paced meal & great food. We had a veggie nut roast. Beautiful setting at Rutland water with good choice of seating inside & outsidein the garden. Really enjoyed - relaxing pleasant atmosphere.

I was with a group of friends for dinner. Whilst the food was ok the service was frankly dreadful. Led by a female maitre d for whom everything was too much trouble and customers frankly an irritation that spoiled her day. She made that clear with her rude and abrupt manner. We had booked, paid a deposit and pre ordered. Can we put pre dinner drinks on our tab? we foolishly enquired - 'No'. Can I add a starter? (25 mins before we were due to sit down) was met with an equally strong rebuke - "we will just have to see if the kitchen can manage it" Would it be possible to correct our bill to deduct the deposit we have already paid? - I've been busy! If you want an enjoyable dinner with acceptable service please go elsewhere or visit your local chippy.

We stayed for 2 nights and have fallen in love with the place! We were staying for a long weekend with 3 other couples. We arrived to find a wonderful charming character pub with an open fire going and an equally warm welcome. The rooms were large, very comfortable, spotlessly clean, nice bathroom and great shower! The restaurant is in sections so does not loose the cosy feel and the food is absolutely first class, great choice of local fresh produce beautifully cooked and presented. The smart beet garden has amazing views, the staff are all really friendly and welcoming. The village is so pretty and traditional and for those that run there is a fantastic 4k circular run (see Strava) which follows the edge of the lake for a good distance. Oakham is a 10 minute drive and a lovely old fashioned market town to visit. We are already planning a trip back! It is busy so book ahead. The only thing is that the carpark is not huge so arrive early!
