Beautiful restaurant who were very accommodating with absolutely excellent service and great food. We went along and walked up the hill past all the shops (great for shopaholics). We received a beautiful welcome and were seated immediately. The customers around us were all jolly and our little spot in the restaurant was very jovial. We had the most amazing waiter - a chap from the Canary Islands. He was very engaging, exceptionally quick and worked the tables around us with such aplomb you could see that everyone felt special. He is so skilful he deserves an award! There was a bottle of champagne on the table as requested and the food was superb. We would be returning when in Rye again. Well done The George In Rye - you shone brightly, there was a wedding reception taking place upstairs, the bridge looked wonderful and everyone seated in the restaurant everywhere just moved past each other with such grace. A wonderful end to the day.

We booked a one night Romantic break package which included BB, £50 dinner allowance and a bottle of bubbly for £280. This was the best value per night I could fined for what probably is the most expensive place to stay in Rye. Pros: The hotel itself is great, our room although one of their more basic ones was lovely, very tastefully designed with a wonderfully comfortable bed and many thoughtful touches to make it feel special. Our bathroom was fabulous and large with a deep roll top bath, super separate shower and even a fireplace. The toiletries supplied were by REN and smelt beautiful. The art work through out the hotel was some of the best we’ve seen and far better than the usual hotel tat. The staff on the whole were very accommodating and smiley. The hotel are obviously going for a pretty high end vibe which they achieve in all but one crucial and important area. The restaurant. Cons: The restaurant is fine to look at but that’s as far as it goes. The main menu is small, unimaginative and not at all on par with the hotels ambitions. The food itself was very disappointing and over priced for what it is. Breakfast was equally bad. They were understaffed, the open kitchen which you see clearly as you helped yourself to cereal etc was clean enough but I was rather put off by the chef who I watched constantly wiping his runny nose on his arm as he cooked his breakfast orders. I’m not going into detail on specifics of the food itself as it is sufficient to say that the items we had for dinner and breakfast are all pretty dreadful. I would never eat there again and the only reason we did this time was because of the deal I had booked. Conclusion: We would definitely stay here again but on a room only bases and would not use the hotel restaurant at all. There are loads of fun and exciting cafes and restaurants in Rye which we discovered once we arrived and so would eat in those in the future. We did try The Fig for lunch and would recommend. Parking is a 5min walk away and good value at £4.50 for 24hrs.

We weren’t staying at the George but went there for dinner. A nice feel to the restaurant with helpful staff and good Gluten free options. There’s a good choice of wine although they are not cheap! Scallops were delicious but the accompanying potatoes were scorched a little. Seabass was again very tasty but scorched potatoes detracted from the overall dish. My partner had the gluten free Haddock, batter was excellent and the fish was amazing. Overall a good meal and I would recommend it.

On 26th May 2024, we got married in the courtyard of The George. What an experience! It was faultless and this was down to the excellent staff who managed the day so incredibly well. We arrived the night before to have dinner with friends and family and then enjoyed the most incredible day - the sun shone, the ceremony outside was gleaming and the rooms upstairs (ballroom, long room and green room) were set up so beautifully with all of our personal touches and ideas laid out perfectly. And the food!!!! Just super! What a chef! A review cannot be left without a special mention of Anna and her husband. She is the wedding planner at The George in Rye and is beyond amazing. We planned our wedding in only three months and she had suggestions from everyone from our fabulous celebrant, Mark Caffrey, to our florist Alex Ball. Big shout out to our DJ Paul from Sussex DJs, Katie from Pollen and Ponder and Emma from Make Your Mark Events. Anna treated us like family and nothing was too much trouble. She was in regular contact and made us feel cared for and special. Thank you, Anna. Thank you. We simply cannot recommend this venue enough and our friends and family would second that vote of confidence as everyone had the most amazing day!

I knew it is an old hotel and walking up 43 stairs wasn’t really a problem (although some aren’t good for large feet). The room floor was uneven unsurprisingly in view of the hotel’s age but occasionally I felt as if I was falling! Breakfast is very expensive (in my opinion) so went elsewhere, as I did for dinner. Great shower but my usual gripe is that there were no handles to steady yourself, I’m sure it’s not just older guests who would appreciate those. I didn’t have much interaction with staff but check in was efficient. Happy to find that street parking right outside was free 6pm-9am and then only 95p for two hours.

Lovely lunch in Rye, a special place. Had the fish and chips and the risotto. Followed by the sticky toffee pudding (of course), and the cheese plate. Great service from Ruyman our waiter and nice atmosphere. The George is right at the top of Rye near the Church, and also has rooms.

After a few problems with staffing on the reopening, The George Hotel has definitely turned things around. Dave behind the bar is always welcoming and Ruyman in the restaurant added to our positive experience for lunch. Service was prompt and food delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

We were hoping for a room on the ground floor and the George Hotel is just perfect. It's in the middle of everything and walking distance to anywhere in Rye. Our courtyard room is elegant and comfortable with the best shower ever. Very cozy bed. The patient and friendly staff is welcoming and conscientious. Restaurant and bar staff were helpful and accommodating. This hotel is a gem!

We stayed at The George in Rye on a Saturday over a holiday weekend. Although the hotel was fully booked, it still felt like a luxurious, peaceful oasis. There are so many relaxed, interesting spaces to grab a drink or just relax that we always felt like we had options to explore. We had a fabulous family room overlooking the rear courtyard and it was perfect for 2 adults & 1 child - airy & bright with a lovely sitting area. The rooms are so well designed with each one having an individual personality - you can tell a lot of thought went into all the furnishings & decor. And the bathroom was like a spa, complete with high-quality products. The staff were absolutely lovely from reception to the bar & breakfast teams - fantastic service and made our young daughter feel welcome. We’ll definitely stay again!
