I would not suggest you stay in the penthouse ,nothing works ,the stove does not work ,the water stays warm and does not get hot,the safe does not work and the microwave was entry level for the penthouse.I complained to maintenance they came up but nothing was fixed.Truly did not enjoy my visit this time.

Rooms OK. Service good. Cleanliness good. Food average. Amenities good. Our stay spoilt by noisy guests from conferences. Shouting and talking loudly in the corridors late at night. Noise levels in the dining room very unpleasant. If you want a few days of peace and quiet go somewhere else.

I have been a rare visitor to the KwaZulu Natal South Coast over the years. A prime holiday destination for tourists, the majority of whom are South Africans. My in-laws and their extended family have holidayed here for many years. So, when given the opportunity to visit I jumped at the chance to head to the town of Scottburgh and the Blue Marlin Hotel The province of KwaZulu Natal is associated with a host of words that begin with “B”. The main four being bush, berg, beach & battlefields. But now here in the seaside town of Scottburgh, on the south coast with views of the sand, shoreline and sea it seemed all things “S” were more appropriate. From my vantage point in the hotel’s sub-tropical gardens, I could see swimmers, both in the sea and the saltwater tidal swimming pool on the seafront. There were bodyboarders riding waves in the surf. Having previously being shark caging diving on the south coast I also knew that there were a variety of sharks out there. Scuba diving is a big draw down here to with the world renowned Aliwal Shoal just offshore. Let’s not forget that there are also seasonal whales migrating along the coast between July and November. And my last “S” which I hope to encounter some day is the “greatest shoal on earth.” The sardine run, which peaks on the south coast in the KwaZulu Natal winter months. The Blue Marlin Hotel makes for an ideal holiday destination and base for exploring the many coastal towns that line the beaches here. Plus, all the above-mentioned activities along with so many more from golf to games reserves. You could take a romantic break, a friend’s together getaway or a family holiday spanning the generations. The large hotel grounds and gardens have plenty of green space with well kept lawns, palm trees and a variety of colourful indigenous plants. The grass areas have sun loungers & umbrellas as does the patio areas that surround the hotel swimming pools. For those seeking shade there are also pagodas and awnings to relax under. For the younger family members, away form the pools, there are outdoor and indoor play areas, a giant outdoor chess board, games room and if required a baby-sitting service. As I am a big breakfast fan, hotel days start off in the best fashion with a great buffet selection. There are options, delicacies, here for everyone. Along with the regular juices, fruits and cereals there are so many hot options for a full ‘South African’. If you like your eggs in the morning, with a smile, there are two dedicated manned hot plates offering everything from overflowing omelettes to fried over easy cooked in front of you. I mixed in mutton sausages, cheese grillers and lamb kidneys to kick start my day. Continuing the hospitality theme. Pre evening dinner you can take a drink at the pool side Blu bar or inside at the Ibis bar. We took advantage of both before taking our seats in the busy Lighthouse restaurant. The evening menus so much. I may be labelling myself as a buffet man, but I pa

Been to Blue Marlin in 2022 it was an unforgettable experience and fast became a firm favourite as a family get away. We were astounded by the food and service. We highly reccommended this resort to our family and friends. Our recent visit was shockingly and dismally disappointing. The food was below average especially for the price. The majority of workers were reluctant to serve us and took our drink menu after we had already completed our meals. Our bed had no sheets on them. The bar could not serve us even though we were enjoying the pool. We were asked to place orders at the resturant. There was no music playing at the bar killing the ambience. The pressure in the shower was so low bathing became uncomfortable barely getting enough water. Unfortunately we will not be recommending this place and maybe we will return when the standards resume to what we had experienced previously.

Stay was good... The pool though was not at its best. On Room service requests you need to pay R20 for someone to bring something to your room. The staff where friendly and their rooms where cleaned at ol time.. Breakfast don't have a lot of variety .

On December 27, 2023, when we checked into the Blue Marlin Hotel, we were allocated to room 303 on the 3rd floor, directly opposite room 301, a self-catering unit. There was already a party in session in 301 when we checked in just after 2 p.m. after dinner, about 9:30 p.m., the party carried on with the noise getting louder due to the guests being drunk. I called reception and complained several times, the security came up struggled to get them to stop, Eventually they did but became angry and upset with us for closing or ending there party, 20 minutes later, the guest from 301 banged and kicked our door waking up my children in fear, they were screaming and shouting for us to open the door, I refused and called for the duty manager, he asked us not leave and stationed a security outside our room. My kids were scared and afraid cried to go home, when I approached the hotel the next morning for a refund due to events that had taken place the previous night, the GM refused us a refund and forced us to take a room that was a downgrade from room 303, the GM of the hotel verbally and almost physically abused us, the GM of this hotel had chased us out several times, almost using the "f" word, but I realized that my husband was recording the conversation. He forced us to take another room because he wouldn't approve a refund; he made me cry continuously and felt no empathy for the fear that was inflicted upon my children the night before. The GM was truly heartless and rude.

The Blue Marlin is a great venue and it brings back many good memories from when I stayed at the hotel as a child BUT there is a massive problem at the hotel which will no doubt chase away many of your paying guests... there is absolutely no control over the noise levels of other guests/ day visitors and its a free for all....partying in the rooms and all over the hotel, loud music and shouting until 4am in the morning, rooms that become bars with loud music and drunk guests, banging doors and shouting loudly. Many of the other guests experienced the same issue. My opinion is that management merely looks the other way and their apologies are standard issue, with NOTHING being done about it. You will end up being a night club for unruly visitors, and if I were a timeshare member, I would certainly avoid this hotel...sadly. I'm sure that I will receive the same, stock standard response from management saying how sorry they are, but sadly nothing will be done about this and the deterioration will continue. Very sad for people who have been coming to the Blue Marlin for years on end. The Cutty Sark Hotel will be a viable alternative as the Blue Marlin Disco Nightmare continues. Regards, Mark
