I first visited summergrove halls around 4 years ago for an international meeting of Aprilia motorbike riders. One of the organisers of this event was employed by the selafield nuclear facility so negotiated a good package of rooms breakfast and evening meals for dozens of bikers. Fast forward to July 22 and I had been working in Scotland. I decided to start my journey home immediately after leaving my customer and stop the night somewhere in the Lake District. I saw summergrove halls on *********** so decided that i would take a trip down memory lane and at a fantastic price. I arrived later than expected at 20.15. The lady at reception quickly booked me in and advised the kitchen closed at 20.30. I dashed to my room, dropped my bags and ran back to the bar. It must have been 20.30 but the bar keep took my order, served me a drink and very shortly brought my starter after that my main and more drinks. The prices for the food were very reasonable. Cheaper even than in restaurants where I live. During this trip I had been staying in a regular mercure hotel with typically long corridors of small rooms, other guests could be heard in their rooms and tramping up and down the corridors, everything was expensive like a frozen pizza for £15! Back to summergrove halls. The clue is in the name “Halls”and this is why for me it’s quirky. Summergrove halls was a halls of residence for the selafield plant. The rooms are in blocks and are arranged around square corridors. There are still communal kitchens as you would find in halls of residence. In contrast to the mercure hotel all was quiet at night and I heard no other guests. The room was basic but had everything I need, a comfy bed ,a powerful hot shower, a tv and strong fast WiFi. I had a good sleep. Most of the other guests were elderly coach trippers but I did see some youngsters there too. It was a pleasure to see the guests old and young interacting with each other talking about the hotel. It isn’t a bland chain hotel but if you want a good base to explore the Lake District or Cumbrian coast at a fantastic price this is the place! Or if you want to organise a convention or conference it’s ideal. The staff were all friendly and I saw the bar keep helping some elderly coach trippers with their cases in the morning.

Had a great stay here with National Holidays. Very clean and excellent food. Helen who runs the restaurant is a real gem. She works so hard to please. There are lots of staff and we were personally escorted to our room . A great spacy site in a forest. Just go !

after long hot bus journey from C ornwall and heading home to Scotland we arrived here for our one night stopover. We arrived later (8pmish) than anticipated but were met with nothing but smiling, obliging and very helpful staff. Although we were most definitely arriving in restaurant at end of their shift the staff here also went above and beyond to serve us with great professionalism and with good grace. well done all staff. Room - certainly no frills but more than adequate and clean. Food to a very good standard.

We stayed here on a National bus trip to the lakes. On arrival we were greeted by three very pleasant and smiley young ladies who welcomed everyone and directed us to our rooms. This hotel has two areas, one area has the self catering rooms and kitchen, the other part which we were in was rooms only. It is a gentle, level walk along to the rooms and we were helped by a friendly porter. The room was quite adequate for two of us, with large flat screen TV and the usual tea, coffee, kettle etc. In the small bathroom was a walk in shower with a high fixed shower head and to shower effectively for me was difficult, but that's the only slight negative. Mealtimes were extremely enjoyable in the lovely dining room. We were served by a team of extremely efficient young waiters and waitresses who were exceptional to say the least. The food was very tasty and the servings generous. Drinks are served from the well stocked restaurant bar and brought to the table for you. Easily the best dining experience we've had on the National coach trips. Throughout our stay we found the staff to be very helpful and friendly and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my partner. Probably the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Had nicer hostels in south east Asia. 2 stars are purely because the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, however the hotel itself should be knocked down and rebuilt to be of any kind of decent standard. Room felt very unclean - and not because I doubt they’re cleaning them but because it’s basically falling apart. The doors are not sound proof AT ALL - which is a standard at a hotel - meaning we were kept up at night and woke up early in the morning. This aswell as there being no curtains or black out blinds so light shining in too. Everything looks like it’s been done with the lowest of cost. Building is like a school/college and like a maze to navigate. I barely leave reviews but this was atrocious.

Our 4 night stay was part of a coach tour and excursion holiday. The room was ample, tv, kettle and tea coffee etc. Beds were very comfortable and very clean - bedding and room/toilet and shower. Breakfast was self service and full range. Evening meals were table service, 3 course and a choice for each course The food really was excellant. All the staff were helpfull and friendly

be aware of hidden costs, i got a £40 parking ticket for parking at the hotel despite registering my car at reception. The hotel is miles form anywhere so does not have parking availability problem, this is pure revenue generation!

We booked last minute for a night away, in all honesty we booked as was very limited with availability for the same day and after reading the reviews we were worried. We had such a great stay, for the money what more could you want !! Rooms small yes but clean, there's a TV,beds comfy!! A bar, gym, restaurant, shop, lounge !! Food was nice too! It's cheap and more than cheerful, staff are lovely everyone we delt with or passed were friendly. It's not our usual place to stay but we will be back. It's not the ritz but for the price you can't go wrong !
