We truly enjoyed our stay at YangZhou State Guest House. We planned to stay one night, but ended up staying 3 nights because this place was so beautiful.
The room was clean and comfortable; the people at the front desk were warm and helpful. We highly recommend this place,and will come back to stay again.

Location is the big plus. Within the compound there's hot spring baths, historical sites, multiple restaurants (some needing 2 weeks advance reservation). The only downside, which can't usually be avoided in China's locally managed hotels, is that the habits of people using rest rooms / importance of toilet paper refill is different from what some foreigners are used to.
Still, overall I'll give it 4.6 stars given the variety and historical significance of some of the sites within the compound.

There are several buildings (new or old) inside this big complex. We stayed in Building 3. Good: great gardens and the lake inside the complex, well-known restaurants with local cuisine. They provide mini shuttle service to different buildings and restaurants. Rooms are spacious. Staffers are friendly and helpful. Not so good: a little outdated, and the carpet needs to be replaced.

We got an upgraded family room at Block 11 (as original block 3 aircon was spoilt) and the hotel staff called us on the checkin day morning to inform us in advance. There is bathtub in toilet so mean we soak in bathtub water to relax at night after a busy day. There is free drinks in the fridge to be consumed daily.
