JW Marriott Hotel Zhengzhou

1. The housekeeping staff, Zhang Dongmei, provided exceptionally warm and personalized service to our whole family. She gave bookmarks to our two children, ensured our room was cleaned multiple times whenever we left, and even left us a handwritten card wishing the kids academic success. Her thoughtful gestures truly touched us. 2. Our room, 4201, was assigned without me paying much attention, as I've always had confidence in Marriott's service. However, it turned out to be the first room right next to the elevator. We were repeatedly woken up at night by noisy guests exiting the elevator, which severely detracted from our stay. Why would a hotel assign a room in such a disruptive location without consulting the guest first? 3. We were informed of a welcome amenity, specifically a fruit platter and some peanuts. However, after multiple inquiries, it was only delivered to our room around 8 PM. 4. The air conditioning wasn't cooling the room effectively; I ended up sweating profusely while having takeout. A maintenance technician was called, who explained that because the central system had continuously lowered the temperature by two degrees throughout the afternoon, the AC's minimum temperature setting had been raised. After some troubleshooting, the room temperature eventually seemed to drop. 5. The quick-dial buttons on the room phone, as indicated by the instructions, were not functional; I had to dial '0' to connect to the front desk. 6. We repeatedly requested four sets of toiletries for our family of four, but consistently received only three bath towels and other amenities. 7. The breakfast was utterly disappointing. I'd go as far as saying it's the worst-rated Marriott breakfast I've encountered across the country. The dining area was small and cramped; it seemed larger on my previous visit, perhaps they've downsized due to slow business. The variety of breakfast options was incredibly limited. Compared to similar hotels in Zhengdong New District, this breakfast is at least three classes below standard. There were only six hot Chinese dishes, including simple items like potatoes, bean sprouts, tofu, and cabbage. The noodle station offered only one topping: tomato and egg with pickled vegetables and shredded pork. Personally, I feel it's several tiers below brands like Hilton and Sheraton. Even compared to Atour hotels, the breakfast variety falls short by a significant margin. 8. The watermelon offered as part of the Executive Lounge amenities on the 41st floor was overripe and had developed an off-flavor from sitting out for half a day. I requested a replacement, and the server politely brought out a new batch, but unfortunately, that too seemed overripe, if not already past its prime.

We chose this hotel because it was very close to the venue for my child's invention competition. It cost over 1000 per night, but the room had a strong musty smell. I suspect it was due to the combination of the indoor carpet and the bathtub; a damp carpet near a shower is practically a breeding ground for mites and mold! What's more, even though I'd already paid for two nights online, they still demanded a separate deposit. They advertised free printing, but there was no staff assistance; we were expected to operate the ancient printer ourselves, which was impossible. Breakfast was very mediocre. The only redeeming quality was the option to have dinner at the hotel, though the dishes themselves were still quite average.

I just found out this Marriott Hotel has a cool nickname: 'The Corn Building,' because when it's lit up at night, it genuinely looks like a corn cob! It's such a distinctive landmark. The lovely Ruyi Lake (shaped like a traditional Ruyi scepter) is right there, and the transportation access is incredibly convenient. It's very close to the high-speed rail station, and it's a direct 30-minute drive to the airport with no traffic lights – super efficient! I'll definitely choose to stay at 'The Corn Building' again on my next trip and continue exploring Zhengzhou.
