Admire the classical charm of the Jianshui Seventeen-Arch Bridge. Visit Tuanshan Village to experience local customs. Head to the Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces to admire the spectacular terraced fields. Finally, head to Bada Scenic Area to enjoy the beautiful terraced fields at sunset. Day 4: Visit Duoyishu Rice Terraces to experience the hard work and wisdom of the Hani people. Then visit Aichun Blue Terraces, where the blue terraces unfold like a painting. Visit Qingkou Hani Ethnic Village to learn more about Hani culture. Finally, head to Lake Spring Hillside Hot Spring to relax. You can wear light cotton clothes during the day, but we recommend bringing a warm jacket for the evening. The wind may be stronger in Jianshui and Fuxian Lake, so we recommend bringing a windbreaker and hat. 🕶️ Kunming is sunny, and Jianshui and Fuxian Lake are beautiful. Sunglasses can protect your eyes and help you enjoy the scenery. Don't forget to bring a sun hat and sunscreen. 🆔 An ID card is required for travel. Bring your student ID, military ID, or other discount cards, as many attractions offer discounts. 💊 The altitude in Yunnan varies, so you may experience altitude sickness. 🌄 Yuanyang Rice Terraces, a poem etched onto the earth. For over a thousand years, the Hani people have carved this dreamlike masterpiece into the mountains. March is the irrigation season, and the shimmering water reflects the sky and clouds, creating a mesmerizing beauty. If you're yearning for this romantic encounter with the terraces, check out this ultimate guide for your March trip 👇 📍 Location: Yuanyang Rice Terraces are located in the south of Ailao Mountain, Yuanyang County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is the core area of the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, a World Cultural Heritage site. 📌 Introduction: With a history of over 1,300 years, Yuanyang Rice Terraces are a testament to the wisdom and hard work of the Hani people. The vast terraces stretch from 144 meters to 1,850 meters above sea level, with the highest level reaching over 3,000 steps. They present a unique ecological landscape of "forest - village - terraces - water system" and are known as "the most beautiful mountain carvings in the world." 🚌 Transportation: • External Transportation: ◦ By air: Fly to Kunming Changshui International Airport, then transfer to a bus to Yuanyang. Buses depart from Kunming South Bus Station at 10:20am, 12:30pm, and 7:00pm daily. Tickets cost CNY 139 per person, and the journey takes 5–6 hrs. Alternatively, take a high-speed train from Kunming to Jianshui or Mengzi, then transfer to a bus to Yuanyang. ◦ By train: Arrive at Kunming Railway Station or Kunming South Railway Station, then transfer to a bus to Yuanyang. ◦ By car: Drive from Kunming along the Kunming–Mojiang Expressway for about 5 hrs. The scenery along the way is beautiful, but the mountain roads have many curves, so drive carefully. • Internal Transportation: Public transportation within the scenic area is limited. It is recommended to hire a car (approx. CNY 300 per day) or take a local minivan (CNY 5–10). 🌟 8 Must-See Attractions: 1. Duoyishu Rice Terraces: The perfect spot for sunrise. In the early morning, the golden sunlight casts a magical glow on the cascading terraces. The interplay of light and shadow, combined with the village and the sea of clouds, creates a breathtaking scene. Best viewing time: Sunrise (approx. 6:30–7:30am). Tickets: CNY 20 per person. 2. Aichunlan Rice Terraces: Located near Duoyishu. Before 10:00am, the sunlight is ideal, transforming the terraces into a series of blue mirrors reflecting the sky, clouds, and mountains. It's stunning, and it's free! 3. Bada Rice Terraces: Thousands of acres of terraces stretch endlessly, from 600 meters to 1,880 meters above sea level. At sunset, the afterglow paints the terraces in shades of orange and red, creating a spectacular gradient. Best viewing time: 5:30–6:30pm. Tickets: CNY 20 per person. 4. Laohuzui Rice Terraces: Despite a landslide a couple of years ago, it's still worth a visit. The terrain is steep, the terrace lines are graceful, and the colors at sunset are vibrant and layered. Best viewing time: Approx. 5:30–6:30pm. 5. Azheke: A well-preserved Hani village with charming mushroom-shaped houses, rich in ethnic charm. Wander through the village, experience the traditional Hani culture, and capture unique photos. Open all day. Tickets: CNY 30 per person. 6. Quanfuzhuang Rice Terraces: Relatively few tourists visit here. You can walk down to the ridges, touch the terraces, and experience the fragrance of the soil and the charm of nature. It's also a great place for stargazing. 7. Qingkou Folk Village: Located along the Jinsi Highway. Experience Hani folk culture, admire traditional Hani architecture, taste local delicacies, and feel the warm hospitality of the Hani people. 8. Lao Yingzui Rice Terraces: A less-crowded spot for sunset viewing. Escape the crowds and enjoy the beautiful sunset and unique terrace landscape. Capture stunning photos. 🍱 Food Recommendations: 1. Terrace Fish: Fish raised in the terraces, fresh and nutritious. Enjoy it steamed, braised, or in soup. 2. Hani Dipping Chicken: Tender chicken with a unique dipping sauce, sour and spicy. 3. Red Rice: A Yuanyang specialty, soft and glutinous with a mild aroma. 4. Fried Tofu: Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, fragrant, and even better with local chili powder. 5. Smoked Pork: Uniquely flavored, not greasy, and can be eaten directly or stir-fried. 🏡 Accommodation: • Near Duoyishu: Convenient for sunrise viewing, with many guesthouses and relatively complete facilities. Prices range from CNY 10s for hostel beds to CNY 100s for unique guesthouses. • Near Bada: Suitable for sunset viewing, with a quiet environment and beautiful terrace views. • Xinjie Town: Diverse accommodation options, restaurants, shops, and other amenities, but farther from the scenic area, requiring transportation to the attractions. ❗ Important Notes: 1. There is a large temperature difference between day and night in March. Bring warm clothes, such as down jackets and thick coats. 2. Arrive early to secure a good spot for sunrise and sunset viewing, especially at Duoyishu for sunrise, as it gets crowded. 3. There are many mosquitoes in the scenic area. Bring mosquito repellent. 4. Respect local customs. Do not enter villagers' homes without permission or damage cultural relics. 5. If driving, be cautious on the winding mountain roads. Honk your horn before curves. 6. Be careful when taking photos. Do not venture into dangerous areas for unique angles.
