Phra That Phra Bat Phon San is an ancient temple and a tourist attraction in Bolikhamxay, approximately 83 kilometers from Vientiane. The temple is located on Highway 13 South. Wat Phra That Phra Bat Phon San has a large, majestic Phra That Phon San. Inside the temple, there is a pavilion and an old monk's hut. Inside the temple, there is a stone floor with holes. Despite its size, it is rarely visited. Phou Khao Khouay National Park is only 40 kilometers northeast of Vientiane, and can be reached by using Route 13 to Tha Khaek. The park, which translates to "Buffalo Horn Mountain," has some stunning scenery and a diverse range of species, ranging from dense rainforest to cold, foggy pine forest, river, and waterfals, including the Tad Leuk and Tad Xay, which may both be explored in the same day. It is the closest National Park to Vientiane, yet it is also one of the most difficult to reach for the average traveler. Many of the previously highly promoted activities and accommodations that were set up to be the next great thing are now dead or collapsing, and the tourist heyday has come and gone.
