Tsuruga Castle Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Castle from 1384
Tsuruga Castle is located in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima. This castle has been built since 1384. The red colored roof tiles are the signature of this castle.
The castle can be conveniently reached from Aizu-Wakamatsu station. We went here as a part of our 5-day Tohoku trip. We purchased the JR East Tohoku Pass that cost us 20,000.
I recommend visiting here during winter. The castle garden filled with fluffy snow is a must a see.

Tsuruga Castle (鶴ヶ城, Tsurugajō) was built in 1384 and changed hands many times between the different rulers of the Aizu region. It was destroyed after the Boshin War of 1868, a rebellion against the newly formed Meiji government, which had taken over control from the Tokugawa shogun and put an end to Japan's feudal era. Tsuruga Castle was one of the last strongholds of samurai loyal to the shogunate.

The entrance fee was quite reasonable, allowing me to explore the temple grounds at my leisure. As I entered through the majestic torii gate, I was greeted by the soothing sound of rustling leaves and the gentle trickle of a nearby stream.
Wandering through the temple grounds, I was captivated by the beauty of the traditional Japanese architecture, with its intricate wooden carvings and graceful sloping roofs. The main hall, adorned with colorful banners and flickering lanterns, exuded an aura of tranquility and reverence.
One of the highlights of my visit was the temple's expansive garden, which was in full bloom with cherry blossoms during my visit. Strolling along the winding paths lined with cherry trees in bloom, I felt as though I had stepped into a scene from a painting, surrounded by delicate pink petals and the sweet fragrance of spring.
After exploring the temple grounds, I took some time to visit nearby attractions. The nearby Aizu Bukeyashiki, or Samurai District, offered a fascinating glimpse into the lives of samurai warriors and their families, with well-preserved residences and gardens to explore.
Additionally, the nearby Tsuruga Castle, with its impressive architecture and panoramic views of the city, was a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Aizu Ashinomaki Onsen Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Aizu Wakamatsu, we live in the 1200-year-old hot spring town - Lusong Mu Hot Spring. Going out at seven in the morning, and walking around the town for half an hour. I remembered the night when I was swaying with the snow covered hot springs and then drinking a bottle of iced milk. I felt that I couldnt help but turn around Tokyo. I never imagined that the first snow of this winter was actually seen here.
The hot springs and snow scenes are the most famous, and the food is also very good. The hotel we stayed in, including hot springs, dining and daily evening performances. Basically, you can feel the comfort of the hotel without the hotel. It is recommended to book the hotel in advance, and the hotel must have two breakfasts. Drink a cup of ice milk completely after the bubble, ah ah ah, it is worth it!
The Akunobu Onsen is located on the Okawa River, which runs parallel to the Aizu West Street. It is about 20 kilometers from the center of Aizuwakamatsu. It is said that it was discovered by Yunyous old man base 1200 years ago. In the past, only nearby people came here to make hot springs. In 1902, the road to the hot spring area was opened, and the hot springs developed. The ancient hot spring street stands along the river with this large and small hot spring hotel. The tallest building is the Dachuanyu Hot Spring Hotel we stayed in.
The interior of the hotel is full of ancient wooden style, two-story glass windows facing the quiet valley, the view is very good. The hotel's open-air hot springs have a view overlooking the valley and blend in with the fascinating valleys of the year-round landscape. After 8 pm, it is a paid private soup. At 8:30 every night, there is also an interactive performance of traditional rice cakes. After the end, you can taste the hand-made rice cakes and experience the traditional Japanese style.

Fukuman Kokuzo Bosatsu Enzoji Temple, a famous temple in the Aizu region, has attracted even greater faith than in the past. Along with the ones at Daimanji Temple in the village of Tokai, Ibaraki Prefecture and at Nomanji Temple in the town of Amatsukominato, Chiba Prefecture, this is counted as one of the three Kokuzo Bosatsu in Japan. According to legend, Kobo Daishi received a sacred tree from a Tang high priest, and after returning to Japan, he split the tree into three pieces and threw it in the ocean, where they floated to Ibaraki, Chiba, and Yanaizu. Hearing this story, Kobo Daishi carved the Kokuzo Bosatsu into that tree. Later, when Enzoji Temple was founded by Tokuitsu Daishi in the year 807, he enshrined that carving of the Kokuzo Bosatsu said to be the work of Kobo Daishi.
