#SongkranThip Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan is an ancient temple of Chachoengsao. It is the home of Luang Pho Sothon, a revered Buddha image of the people of Paet Riew and people from all directions since the past. It is located about 2 kilometers from the city center market. This temple was originally a temple for the people, built at the end of the Ayutthaya period. According to history, it was originally called “Wat Hong” because there was a “Swan Pillar” in the temple, a tall pillar with a swan on top. Later, the swan on top of the pillar broke and fell, leaving only the pillar, and someone hung a flag in its place, so it was named “Wat Sao Thong”. When the flagpole broke in half, it was renamed “Wat Sao Thong Thon”. The name “Wat Sothon,” which means “pure” and “sacred,” comes from Phra Phuttha Sothon or Luang Pho Sothon who was enshrined in the temple. Wat Sothon was later bestowed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
