Commemorate the father of modern China

The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is a large building in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, built a few years after the death of Sun Yat-sen, founder and president of the Republic of China. It's an excellent modern example of Lingnan (southern Chinese) architecture. Getting There - The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is easily accessed from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station and Yuexiu Park Station on metro line 2. Attractions - Access to the grounds is free but a ticket (¥10) is required to enter the building, where there's an exhibition about the life and times of Dr Sun Yat-sen. Concerts are also sometimes held in the main hall. From behind the memorial hall, enter Yuexiu Park and climb several hundred stairs to reach another Sun Yat-sen memorial, a huge stone obelisk. It's usually possible to climb to the viewing platform of this tower, though not to the top. Why go - The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is a popular spot for photos, especially with the statue of the venerable doctor, and the grounds are a welcome green space in the otherwise densely packed Yuexiu District.
