Hyogo｜Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the world's second longest span suspension bridge, a miracle that withstood the Great Hanshin Earthquake

If you go to Kobe, it is recommended to take a few stops west. The Akashi Bridge in Maiko witnesses the essence of human bridge technology. This bridge connecting Kobe and Awaji Island has a maximum span of over 1,900 meters, making it the second largest suspension bridge in the world. The steel cables in the main structure are very mysterious. Each one is made up of 290 steel strands, which in turn are made up of 127 steel wires. In other words, one steel cable uses 36,830 steel wires. During the Great Hanshin Earthquake, the bridge was only four kilometers away from the epicenter, but it suffered only minor damage. This shows how solidly built this bridge is. The green building next to it is the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, also known as the Yiqing Pavilion.
