[Shimane Prefecture/Kumano Taisha Shrine] I'm glad I went in 2023! Shrines in Shimane Prefecture ⑤

We got on a bus🚌, heading further out of the residential area and into a place rich in nature, then changed buses again and arrived at a shrine nestled in the mountains. Long ago, Kumano Taisha, which was located on Mount Tengu, was divided into two shrines, Kaminomiya at the foot of Mount Mikasa and Shimonomiya at its current location during the Middle Ages. "Kaminomiya's Deity" Izanami-no-Mikoto Kotosakao-no-Kami Hayatama-o-Kami "Shimonomiya's Deity" Amaterasu-O-Kami Susanoo-no-Mikoto Later, during the Meiji period, Kaminomiya was enshrined with Shimonomiya. Kaminomiya remains as the ruins of Kaminomiya to this day. (I will post this separately) Of particular note is the thatched-roofed Sankaden, an ancient-style building. The fire drill mortar and fire drill pestle to be sent to Izumo Taisha are stored in this Sankaden. At the Sankasai, the fire drill mortar and fire drill pestle are sent in exchange for rice cakes. The mortar and pestle are used to create fire for the ancient Niiname-sai festival on November 23rd. It is said that Susanoo taught how to create this fire🔥, and Kumano Taisha is said to be the "shrine where fire originated."
