Zhongshan Road "European Style Street" – Shenyang's "Wukang Road"

Over half of Shenyang's century-old European-style buildings are concentrated along Zhongshan Road, which has had several names throughout history. Since the construction of Shenyang Railway Station, this street has been in existence for over 110 years. The buildings on both sides are mostly European and Russian in style, not particularly exquisite but with distinct architectural features. Some well-preserved structures like "Gothic Bookstore," "Shenyang Hotel," and "Red Cross Branch" showcase successful planning, management, and restoration efforts. Certain sections feature clusters of bars, cafés, and Western restaurants with beautifully arranged sidewalks. However, most areas lack unified planning and maintenance—building facades and signage are cluttered with mismatched decorations, electrical wires are haphazardly installed, and many once-costly sculptures now appear heavily damaged. Despite being designated as a European-style street for over two decades, it falls far short compared to similar themed streets in other cities.
