Sanctuary of Saint Rita of Cascia (Santuario di Santa Rita da Cascia) Cathedral of Spoleto (Duomo di Spoleto) In his later years, Filippo Lippi lived in Spoleto, where he created the frescoes 'Stories of the Virgin Mary' for the apse of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. The series consists of four frescoes, with 'The Coronation of the Virgin' on the dome, and on the walls below, from left to right, are 'The Annunciation', 'The Dormition of the Virgin', and 'The Nativity of Jesus'. Work began in 1466, and Lippi suddenly passed away in 1469. The finishing touches were completed by his workshop in the months following his death.
